BBC Sport's Ask Me Anything team has been answering your questions on the world of sport...

Among those is who is named the Ballon d'Or winner.

How is the Ballon d'Or winner decided?

The winner is chosen through a dual system of voting.

Firstly, journalists from France Football and fellow French publication L'Equipe work together to produce a combined list of 30 official nominees, based on players' performances in the previous season. This initial selection process sometimes also includes a small number of former players.

Then, one football journalist from each of the top 100 Fifa-ranked nations is invited to cast votes for their top 10 players in order from that shortlist. The 10 players are awarded 15, 12, 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 point based on ranking.

Once all journalists have submitted their top 10s, points are tallied and the winner of the Ballon d'Or is the player who accrued the most points in the voting, while the rest are ranked from second to 30th.

Salah has been consistently a top performer since he joined the Reds, some seasons better than others, while others like Dembele have been great for just one or two seasons, to me Salah should get it for the consistent track record of excellence.

Can I just say how refreshing it is to not have Messi or Ronaldo on the list. Nice to see a more level playing field where you can pick 5-10 where you go "cor, they had a cracking season, they could get it!"

  12. Ballon d'Or nominees - Cole Palmerpublished at 15:30 British Summer Time

    Cole PalmerImage source, Getty Images

Could Chelsea's Cole Palmer get his hands on the Ballon d'Or for the first time?

The attacking midfielder may be cold in celebration but his displays on the field have been anything but with the former Man City man being regularly on fire for the Blues.

He rounded off a brilliant individual campaign by scoring in the Club World Cup final as Enzo Maresca's side saw off Paris St-Germain.

    Palmer's 2024-25 statistics:

    • Age: 23
    • Appearances: 52
    • Goals: 18
    • Assists: 14

Lancaster-born Scott McTominay spent 20 years at Manchester United for over 20 years until his summer departure.

It was a mutual decision to leave, for a fee of £25.7m. McTominay wanted a change of scenery, and the Premier League's PSR rules meant the deal made sense to United.

He joined Napoli on the same day as Scotland team-mate Billy Gilmour moved from Brighton for £12m.

But the move nearly did not happen. Another midfielder Marco Brescianini was having a medical at Napoli. But suddenly the Italy international completed a loan move to Atalanta, with an obligation to buy, and Napoli signed McTominay instead.

Reports vary on how it all unfolded. Some say Brescianini opted for Atalanta, or Napoli pulled out once McTominay became available, while others say Frosinone tried to change the deal.

Whatever happened, it has worked out well for Napoli and McTominay.

I like the omission suggestions but you've got to remember that they would have had to replace someone in the list.

Who would you omit from the list to include your omission?

    Omishception.

    Does that even make sense?

It's sometimes easy to forget that Jude Bellingham is still only 22-years-old.

Another season down with Real Madrid and another 50+ appearances to his name taking his appearances in senior football to close to 300.

It may not have been a successful as some have been in the past on a collective level but it still yet could be from a personal perspective.

    Bellingham's 2024-25 statistics:

    • Age: 22
    • Appearances: 58

Isak not getting nominated is surprising to me, clearly one of the best strikers in the world, with an 150 million pound price tag on him, are we really saying players like guirassy are better than him?
