That's as far as we go here on another exciting evening of play-off football.

Elsewhere this evening, Crawley thumped MK Dons 3-0 in the first leg of their League Two play-off semi after yesterday's initial game was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

But Bolton hung on to reach the League One final despite losing on the night to a Barnsley side who showed a great never-say-die attitude.

Wanderers will now face either Peterborough or Oxford in the final at Wembley on Saturday, 18 May.

Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt speaking to Sky Sports:

"That was unenjoyable. Credit to Barnsley, I thought they were excellent. They never give up and they are the kind of team that ask you questions.

"We were ahead in the game and a simple error gave them momentum.

"First half I was proud of how the players reacted, second-half was nail-biting. It was a bit of an anti-climax.

"We got there, it will take me a while to start to enjoy it.

"It is for the fans. They've been through so much hurt and pain with this football club. It's almost been a complete rebuild.

"For us, it's not about celebration too much. Now, it's the best place to win and the worst place to lose.

"[The final] could go either way. We will have to look at both teams and do our due diligence. For now, I just need a sit down."

So, who will Bolton be playing in the League One play-off final then?

Oxford take a narrow 1-0 lead to Peterborough for tomorrow's second leg.

Posh saw a 4-0 first leg lead disappear against Sheffield Wednesday last season so they'll be hopeful of overturning that.

Kick off is at 20:00 BST tomorrow.

It's been a long way back for Bolton, who were a Premier League mainstay for 11 years before going down in 2012.

They dropped down to the fourth tier in 2020 having nearly gone out of existence altogether in 2019.

Ian Evatt led them straight up back to League One at the first time of asking in 2021.

They reached the League One play-offs last season, only for Barnsley to see them off in the semi-finals.

Can they get over the line this time? They're in the final now and will fancy their chances.

Bolton's Aaron Collins told Sky Sports:

"It was a lot closer than we would have liked but we got the job done in the end.

"It's two legs and we ended up losing the second one but we did enough to get ourselves over the line.

"It was a frustrating second half and the nerves were there but we managed to get the job done."

Bolton's George Thomason told Sky Sports:

"In the second-half the nerves crept in a bit.

"Momentum is massive in football.

"Credit to Barnsley.

"I am sure our fans will back us all the way to Wembley."

If you weren't here earlier for me throwing stats around then firstly, fair enough, but secondly, this is Bolton's first play-off final since 2001.

They beat Preston in the First Division play-off final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium then.

Hope they know not to head there for this final.

I'm just looking at the sight of this pitch; there's thousands of people, there's flares going off. What a night for Bolton Wanderers!

They skated on thin ice it has to be said but they eventually got over the line.

It's nothing short of brilliant. You can't help but eulogise about it as a spectacle. It had everything. Every credit Barnsley for what they did on the second-half but Bolton got over the line.

There is the customary pitch invasion as Barnsley's players try and leave quickly.

Barnsley have made a terrific fist of it this second half, but ultimately the awful defending in the first half made what was already a long shot almost an impossible challenge.

A season that started with so much promise, automatic promotion seemed likely a while, but the inquest no doubt now looms large.

Bolton survive an almighty scare and are going to the League One play-off final!

Another great night of play-off football.

The Tykes came into this 3-1 down from the first leg but got themselves back in it through Sam Cosgrove's header.

However, Aaron Collins and Eoin Toal scored in the final minutes of the first half to put the home side three goals to the good.

That looked to be that but Adam Phillips' deflected strike gave the Tykes hope and Cosgrove headed in to give them a real chance.

Thereafter the South Yorkshire side had a few moments but Bolton managed to see it out.

They'll meet Oxford or Peterborough at Wembley.

Conor Grant goes down in the area and Barnsley appeal for a penalty but the referee gives it the other way.

Prior to the play-offs Barnsley striker Sam Cosgrove had scored three goals all season.

His double tonight means he has another three across the semi-final.

Barnsley are giving it everything. You are coming up to the last five minutes of your season and you need a goal. They aren't going to give up.

These play-offs are the best things the English Football League have invented. It's nothing short of fantastic.

This time last season it was Barnsley who were the victors when these pair met at this stage.

Bolton looked set fair to get their revenge in some style but it's pretty hairy now.

Can the away side fashion one more big chance?

If you put a shift in for the club, for the badge on the chest, then that is what Barnsley fans want.

Talk about experience in these situations, Bolton sub Cameron Jerome made his league debut in October 2004.

The experienced striker is going to have to use all his nous to help his side over the line now.
