Champions League highlights: Bayern Munich 3-1 Slovan Bratislava
Harry Kane helped Bayern Munich to beat Slovan Bratislava but victory was only good enough to earn the German club a play-off spot in the Champions League.
Thomas Muller converted a free header on the edge of the six-yard box to set Bayern on their way. The goal, his 56th in the competition, moved the 35-year-old joint-sixth on the all-time Champions League scorers list.
Bayern had a firm grip on proceedings throughout, controlling the game deep inside Slovan Bratislava territory but had to wait until the 63rd minute for Kane to grab their second.
Kane met a deflected Jamal Musiala cross with a powerful header from just a couple of yards out for his sixth goal in the competition this season.
Kingsley Coman added a third for the hosts with a cool side-foot finish after goalkeeper Dominik Takac parried into his path.
Marko Tolic scored the goal of the night, rifling the the ball into the roof of the net, to reduce the deficit in stoppage time.
Bayern climb up to 12th in the standings but results elsewhere denied them a top-eight spot and they will face either Manchester City, Real Madrid or Celtic in the play-off round.
Slovan Bratislava end the campaign in 35th and without a single point.

Bayern Munich and Slovan Bratislava will meet in a competitive fixture for the first time; the Germans last faced a Slovakian opponent in European competition in the 1988-89 UEFA Cup, beating DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda 5-1 on aggregate in a round of 32 tie.
Slovan Bratislava will travel to Germany for the fourth time in major European competition, failing to win on their three previous trips (D1 L2), most recently drawing 2-2 with Stuttgart in a 2010-11 UEFA Europa League qualifier.
Bayern Munich are unbeaten in each of their last 33 home games in the UEFA Champions League group stage (W31 D2), the joint-longest such run in the competition’s history, level with Barcelona between November 2009 and November 2020.
Slovan Bratislava have never won in nine previous away games in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League (D1 L8) and could become the fifth team to play 10+ matches on the road in the competition without ever tasting success: APOEL Nicosia (20), HJK (13), Levski Sofia (12) and Brøndby IF (10).
Just under half of Bayern Munich’s home UEFA Champions League goals this season have come via set pieces (5/11, 45%). In only three campaigns have they seen a higher percentage scored from set pieces on home soil, most recently in 2018-19 (5/9, 56%).
Slovan Bratislava have conceded an average of 3.4 goals per game in the UEFA Champions League this season (24 in seven matches); their most in a single campaign in major European competition.
Bayern Munich have made more high-intensity pressures in the final third than any other team in the UEFA Champions League this season (889), as well as being the team who’ve made the most high turnovers (102) in the competition this term.
Joshua Kimmich leads all midfielders for both completed passes (601) and line-breaking passes (113) in the UEFA Champions League this season. The Bayern Munich midfielder also has been involved in more shot-ending sequences of play than any other player in the competition this term (59).
Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala has been directly involved in seven goals in his last nine UEFA Champions League appearances at the Allianz Arena in the group stages (2 goals, 5 assists), while Musiala has never lost a home game in the competition (W17 D3). Only John O’Shea (32), Rodri (27) and Carlos Tevez (23) have played more on home soil without losing.
Tigran Barseghyan has either scored (1) or assisted (2) half of Slovan Bratislava’s goals in the UEFA Champions League this season (3/6). Indeed, Barseghyan has been directly involved in each of his side’s last three non-penalty goals in the competition.
