Both captains laid a wreath of poppies in the centre circle before an impeccably observed minute's silence to mark Armistice Day. This is St Mirren's last home game before Remembrance Sunday.

The first impression is that, as soon as they got the ball, Hearts launched it forward. Looks like they plan to put the home defence under as much pressure as they can.

St Johnstone v Hearts (15:00)
Simo Valakari is "excited" to be taking charge of his first game as St Johnstone manager.
"As expected, there's been a lot of good things but a lot of things we have to improve," the Finn tells BBC Scotland when asked about is early impressions of his squad.
"Today, we are playing a very good football team. Of course, they have their own problems, but they are a very good football team."
Valakari says he learned a lot from the midweek defeat by St Mirren.

The two home stands are filling up nicely at the Falkirk Stadium. The Kevin McAllister stand is almost full, while the main stand is getting there. The away stand is a bit sparse, maybe about 200 away supporters have made the trip...although to be fair they've brought the drums so are making plenty of noise.

There's a good smattering of St Mirren fans around three of the four stands, braving the somewhat bleak driving rain that's been sweeping through Paisley.
It's a near 400-mile round trip from Dingwall and there's a small, hardy band of County fans here too to see if they can finally celebrate an away win for the first time since September last year at Kilmarnock.
Critchley 'impressed' despite Hearts positionpublished at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2024

St Johnstone v Hearts (15:00)
Neil Critchley is enjoying his early days in Scottish football and is "impressed with the quality of our players" despite suffering his first defeat as Hearts boss last time out against Kilmarnock, with his side now bottom of the table.
"But that can't just be outside the box," he tells BBC Scotland. "We've got to translate that into meaningful opportunities.
"If you look at the game as a whole, there were moments when we were quite dominant. There are positives to take from the performance, but the two moments that cost us the goals were really poor."
As for his early impressions of Scottish football, the Englishman adds: It's really competitive and there's such a fine line between winning and losing in lots of games."

St Mirren v Ross County (15:00)
St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson tells BBC Scotland: "My job is to focus solely on football and we aim to prove that today.
"The players are in good spirits and we're ready to go. I can only control certain things and we are happy with where we are after these last two games.
"The hard bit now is the third game in a week but the players have go that bit between their teeth. It's up to the boys to perform again and keep their place in the team."

Ross County 'understand the challenge'published at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2024

St Mirren v Ross County (15:00)
Ross County manager Don Cowie tells BBC Scotland: "We know it's three games in a week, I believe in the squad that we've got and I believe this is the team that gives us the best platform to start the game.
"In football you earn your luck. It's a difficult venue, a very good team, they had a great result midweek so they'll be feeling good about themselves but as always we understand the challenge, we accept it and we look forward to it."
On County's poor away record, Cowie adds: "Every game away from home is another opportunity to put that run to an end. The only people that can change it is us and the group and that's what we'll aim to do."

Ross County have not won away in the Scottish Premiership in more than a year. They have not won in Paisley since 2015. The last Ross County player to score at St Mirren was Brian Graham in 2019. Their last goal here was a Nathan Sheron own goal a year later.
It all points to a difficult afternoon for Don Cowie's men as they look to wipe all of those stats away and leapfrog their hosts in the table.

A wee foray into the Scottish Championship for me today. Looking forward to seeing in-form leaders Falkirk against Greenock Morton.

St Mirren have been much more like themselves in their past two matches, playing well in defeat at Ibrox then hitting St Johnstone for three.
It's still just two wins from their past 13 for the Buddies, who'll hope to continue the recent bounce against a side they haven't lost to in Paisley since Liam Boyce scored a hat-trick for County in a 3-0 win in April 2015.

Beni Baningime returns to Hearts' midfield after missing the past three matches through illness as Neil Critchley makes three changes after suffering his first defeat as Hearts manager, at home to Kilmarnock, last time out.
He is joined in midfield by Yan Dhanda, with Daniel Oyegoke replacing Adam Forrester in defence.
Forrester, Cammy Devlin and forward Kenneth Vargas drop to the bench.

St Mirren's Killian Phillips and Ross County's Eli Campbell battle for the ball in a tense affair in Paisley.

Greg Kiltie's penalty miss proved costly as St Mirren were held at home by Ross County in the Scottish Premiership.
The hosts had the chance to take the lead in the first half when referee Don Robertson awarded a spot-kick - following VAR intervention - for Eli Campbell's tug on Marcus Fraser's shirt.
But Ross County goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw saved Kiltie's effort and neither side could find the breakthrough in a tight contest.
With 12 games played Stephen Robinson's side move up to sixth in the table, with Don Cowie's County level on points but two places below in eighth.
Jordan White should have capitalised on Laidlaw's save by putting County ahead before the interval.
A lovely cutback from James Brown set up White perfectly in the St Mirren box, but the striker could only watch his effort sail over the crossbar.
Chances were scarce but just before full-time, St Mirren substitute Mikael Mandron had a great opportunity to snatch a winner.
He received the ball in the middle of the box, chested it on to his foot, but could not direct his effort on target.
County might have made more of a late chance too when Richard Taylor gave away a free-kick right on the edge of the St Mirren box, but Ronan Hale fired right into the wall.
Saints struggles throw up more concern
Having ended a four-game losing streak by returning to winning ways in midweek, Robinson will be frustrated his side couldn't make it back-to-back victories.
The goalless draw throws up more worries for Saints. Kiltie's miss raises questions over who will take their penalties from now on, with Mark O'Hara having also struggled from the spot this season.
Of the host' 11 attempts, only three were on target and the likes of Toyosi Olusanya, Mandron and Jonah Ayunga were not clinical.
But after three games in a week, the Paisley men sit sixth in the table and have a much-needed break to prepare for next Saturday's trip to Easter Road.
Important point for County
Another point on the road will be pleasing for Cowie, whose side haven't won away in the league in over a year.
County weren't overrun in the 90 minutes either and had their own opportunities to snatch a victory.
They often looked threatening on the break, Jack Grieves did really well in attack, but surely the most pleasing aspect for Cowie will be the performance of his goalkeeper.
A penalty save and a couple of other important stops from Laidlaw made it two clean sheets in two games against some tough opposition.
What they said
St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson: "It's an opportunity missed.
"It was different from the last two games, Ross County slowed it down and it looked like they were playing for a point until the very end.
"It's an opportunity missed, I think we should have won the game. Lessons learned, we remain unbeaten and we go again."
Ross County manager Don Cowie: "The objective before the game was to try and get three points but it's a really difficult place to come.
"I thought we defended extremely well and I'm really proud of the team coming away with a clean sheet."
St. Mirren are unbeaten in seven home games against Ross County in the Scottish Premiership (W5 D2) since a 0-3 reverse in April 2015. The Buddies have kept a clean sheet in their last five such home games against the Staggies, winning the last three.
The away side has won none of the last eight league meetings between St. Mirren and Ross County (6 home wins, 2 draws), with the last away win in this fixture being the Buddies’ 3-2 victory in October 2021.
St. Mirren have lost each of their last three league games played on a Saturday, last losing more consecutively in the Scottish Premiership on that specific day in April 2022 (5 in a row).
Ross County are winless in their last 21 away games in the Scottish Premiership (D8 L13), since a 1-0 win at Kilmarnock in September 2023; that is now the outright longest winless streak away from home in the competition this century.
St. Mirren’s Kevin van Veen has scored more goals against Ross County (7) than any other current Scottish Premiership side, including a hat-trick in October 2022 for Motherwell.
