    Just to recap, Lee Carsley has been appointed interim England manager for September's Nations League games as the search for Gareth Southgate's successor continues.

    The 50-year-old has stepped up from his role as England Under-21 boss to replace Southgate, who resigned two days after defeat by Spain in the Euro 2024 final last month.

    "As I am very familiar with the players and the cycle of international football, it makes sense for me to guide the team while the FA (Football Association) continues the process to recruit a new manager," said Carsley.

    "My main priority is to ensure continuity and our goal is to secure promotion in the Uefa Nations League.”

    Chelsea have agreed a deal worth 63m euros (£53.9m) for Wolves forward Pedro Neto.

    The Portugal international is now due for a medical ahead of moving to Stamford Bridge.

    It is an initial 60m euro fee, with 3m euros of add-ons, with Chelsea finally striking a deal with Wolves after having two earlier bids rejected.

    Neto, 24, has been linked with a move away from Molineux for the past 12 months. He has made 135 appearances, scoring 14 goals since joining from Lazio in 2019.

    Having signed their 8th keeper, I wonder whether part of the Chelsea strategy is to hoard all the players to stifle competition. If the player market is limited, rivals won't have access to talent and/or will need to pay inflated fees for those left.

    Pep Guardiola dealt with a number of issues there, many of them nothing to do with Saturday's Community Shield.

    He was asked about Wayne Rooney's assertion that the Spaniard would be the ideal replacement for Gareth Southgate as England manager, to which he replied: "I have to decide what I want to do with my life, stay here, take a break, [lead a] national team. But right now I am here and fully excited for the season."

    The City boss was also questioned about Julian Alvarez's reasons for wanting to leave the club.

    He said: "I know he wanted a new challenge. He felt or feels that is what he wanted to do."

    And, on whether his international players would be available for the Community Shield, Guardiola confirmed his England and Spain players will not return from their summer break until next week. So no, is the answer.

    "I understand in certain moments, important moments, maybe he thought he was going to play. I respect that a lot. The decisions of the players, I said many times, I am a part of the club but the club has the final decision.

    "A contract can be broken, if you are not happy why should you be here? When you believe happiness is around another corner, you have to go there to take a look.

    "He believes his period here is over and okay. Both clubs are in agreement."

    Strangely, despite winning the last four Premier League titles, Manchester City have not won the Community Shield since 2019. Manchester United's last triumph was in 2016.

    City will be wearing traditional blue shirts and United their familiar red.

    Clubs are allowed six substitutes, excluding concussion subs, there will be penalties after 90 minutes if needed - and VAR will be in operation.
