OK, we have talked about a potential domino effect in the summer transfer window, of Premier League strikers moving clubs, should Dominic Solanke complete his proposed move from Bournemouth to Tottenham.

So we thought we would have a look back through some of the other possible deals for number nines mooted in BBC Sport's gossip column over the summer.

Let's start with Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku...

It has been mentioned that Dominic Solanke's impending transfer to Tottenham from Bournemouth could set the dominoes falling for other moves.

The Cherries hold an interest in Aston Villa's Cameron Archer, who returned to Villa Park this summer after a season at Sheffield United.

They had no plans to add to their forward line while Solanke was at the club but his expected departure drastically changes the landscape at the Vitality Stadium.

Archer re-joined Villa in June after Sheffield United were relegated, which triggered the clause for his return after he joined the Blades for £18m last summer. The striker scored four goals in 21 Premier League starts for United.

Villa's forward line remains thin, though, with little central back up for Ollie Watkins.

Jhon Duran remains at the club - despite summer interest from West Ham, who signed Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund this week.

Archer's immediate future is likely to be tied to whether Duran remains in Birmingham as the club will not leave themselves short up front so close to the start of the season.

I am massively underwhelmed by Solanke's potential signing. While I think he'd probably fit the system quite well, I fear last season was a one-off for him in terms of goalscoring. Maybe he'll surprise us. Maybe a bit of competition will ignite something in the Brazilian pigeon [Richarlison]. At least Solanke ticks the homegrown box I guess. As optimistic as I get as a Spurs fan.

Should Belgium youth international Mike Penders, 19, complete his proposed £17m move from Genk, then he would become the eighth goalkeeper on Chelsea's books.

Here is a list of the goalkeepers currently at Chelsea, according to Transfermarkt:

    • Robert Sanchez, aged 26 - made 21 appearances for the first team last season
    • Djordje Petrovic, 24 - played 31 times for the senior side last season
    • Filip Jorgensen, 22 - signed from Villarreal in July
    • Kepa Arrizabalaga, 29 - contracted until 2025, made 20 appearances on loan at Real Madrid last season
    • Marcus Bettinelli, 32 - made just one appearance for Chelsea - in the FA Cup in 2022 - in three seasons at the club
    • Lucas Bergstrom, 21 - progressed through the academy ranks but yet to play for the first team. Spent last season on loan at Swedish side Brommapojkarna
    • Eddie Beach, 20 - under-21s keeper still waiting to make his senior debut. Played five games on loan at National League side Gateshead last season

I’d very happily have Solanke at Arsenal so I think it’s a great move for Spurs, and I’m quite jealous. Hopefully this move can be the trigger for Arsenal to get a new striker who is more clinical than Jesus and Nketiah.

Chelsea have agreed a fee believed to be around £17m to sign teenage Genk goalkeeper Mike Penders, subject to a medical.

The Belgian, 19, will sign a long-term deal at Stamford Bridge and is then expected to go back on loan to Genk for the upcoming season.

The 6ft 7in shotstopper made his senior Belgian league debut in July and became the third youngest goalkeeper to debut in the history of the division.

Penders is also a youth international for Belgium Under-19s.

He will become Chelsea's 10th summer signing taking spending to beyond the £150m mark with Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion expected to join for a further £34.5m in the coming days.

As far as Ivan Toney or Calvert Lewin potentially replacing Solanke at Bournemouth, no offence intended, but surely that would be a side-step or step-down in their career?

Tottenham are in advanced talks with Bournemouth over a £60m deal for striker Dominic Solanke.

Solanke has a release clause in his contract, as confirmed by Bournemouth owner Bill Foley in his interview with BBC Sport in Santa Barbara last month.

It is understood he is attracted by the prospect of playing in European football.

If the deal goes through it would represent a club record sale for Bournemouth, exceeding the £40m they received from Manchester City for defender Nathan Ake in 2020.

Solanke joined Bournemouth from Liverpool for £19m in 2019.

It is understood Liverpool have a substantial sell-on clause.

Foley said last month he hoped the 26-year-old would stay but Bournemouth had "two or three candidates lined up" as potential alternatives.

Re Danny 09:58 I think Tottenham fans have got to remember Solanke scored more goals than any of their players did in the league last season and that was for a “smaller” club. Give him opportunities and he will thrive at Tottenham

  12. Man City sign Yamashitapublished at 10:25 British Summer Time 9 August

Manchester City have signed Japan international Ayaka Yamashita on a deal running until 2027.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper joins from INAC Kobe Leonessa.

Yamashita has won 74 international caps.

She said: “Because of my personality, I am very hungry. I’ve won various trophies in Asia, but to level up myself, I felt the need to take on a challenge. It’s a famous club that everyone knows, and even now, it feels unbelievable to me."

Solanke would be a good fit. He's a cheeky and wiley player who works hard. It seems Richarlison works best with a bit of competition these days, so having Dom around could spur him on (pun intended) to get back to his own high standards.

The three transfers of Conor Gallagher, Julian Alvarez and Samu Omorodion, which all involve Atletico Madrid, feel loosely tied together - and until they are finalised there will be caution around them going through.

Representatives of all three players believe their transfers are done.

    • Alvarez, 24, should join Atletico Madrid from Manchester City for £81.5million.
    • Gallagher, 24, is already in Spain ahead of his £34m move from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid.
    • And Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion is expected to complete his £34.5m move to Chelsea after the Olympics men's football gold medal match in Paris this evening.

Although the two deals involving Chelsea are not considered swap deals, if one collapses, it is likely the other will not go through.

That's why the clubs have stopped short of announcing any agreements, with a small percentage of doubt still a cause for a small amount of concern.

I'll be very disappointed if we buy Solanke. £65million is far too much money for a striker who isn't good enough for a club trying to be in the top four. I fear our lack of homegrown players is partly the reason for going for Solanke.

Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo is set to have a medical with West Ham United on Friday as they aim to beat Juventus to the Frenchman's signature.

The Hammers have agreed an initial season-long loan deal for Todibo that includes a 40m Euros (£34.22m) option to buy in 2025.

Juventus had been the front-runners to sign the 24-year-old, but the Italians have struggled to reach an agreement with Nice.

While a move to London Stadium is not yet certain, it would be a significant coup for the Hammers to edge Juventus to the signing given the Italian club can offer Champions League football.
