As a spectacle it was everything we wanted that first half.

We wanted it to be feisty and lively. We wanted to see quality and energy and I think they have shown that.

There's no doubt, Linfield settled better. It was as if that Linfield team were desperate for this game to come around.

But it's poised brilliantly for us.

The first half ends on an unfortunate note as Cliftonville's Odhran Casey falls awkwardly under a fair challenge from Linfield's Chris McKee.

Referee Jamie Robinson blows the half-time whistle to allow Casey to get treatment.

Joel Cooper is working tremendously hard.

He's having to do his defensive work up and down the line and he's also been very creative for Linfield too.

That is a huge blow for Cliftonville to lose David Odumosu, who has pulled off some huge stops for the Reds since joining from St Pats.

He goes off in tears and that just adds to the Reds' woes this half, they have failed to really get going.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 4 May

    Cliftonville 0-1 Linfield

David Odumosu has been unable to shake off that earlier injury and he is replaced in goal by Nathan Gartside.

Not the first change in personnel you expect to report in a cup final and an unfortunate end to the afternoon for Odumosu, who has been excellent in his first season at Solitude.

I mentioned how much of an influence Jamie Mulgrew was in the first 20 minutes.

It's Rory Hale now, the other skipper, he's become more of an influence. He's that person that can create for Cliftonville in the middle of the park.

Former Glentoran captain on BBC Two NI

I think Cliftonville will be pleased with their last five minutes of contribution.

Before that they just weren't really in the game. They were giving away a lot of free kicks and giving the ball away under no pressure. It was so unlike them.

But they have grown back into it and had some opportunities of their own.

Brave goalkeeping from David Odumosu as he slides out to make a 50/50 challenge with Joel Cooper.

The Cliftonville keeper is receiving some fairly lengthy treatment here and the Reds' substitute keeper Nathan Gartside is warming up on the sideline.

  19. Postpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 4 May

    Cliftonville 0-1 Linfield

Another chance for Cliftonville as Rory Hale lays the ball across the face of goal 14 yards out but Ronan Doherty - untypically - can't keep his left-footed shot on target.

Again, more encouragement for the Reds,

Rory Hale swings in a delicious, teasing cross which Sam Ashford is inches away from getting on the end of at the back post.

That has lifted the spirits of the Cliftonville fans, though.
