Leicester City boss Steve Cooper believes England Under-17s' World Cup triumph over Spain seven years ago was a seminal moment in the country's youth development.

As U17s manager he guided his Young Lions into the history books when they became world champions, beating Spain 5-2 in 2017, just months after losing to them on penalties in the European Championship final.

Phil Foden scored twice while Marc Guehi also netted as Cooper's side came from 2-0 down to storm to victory.

Now, with Foden and Guehi expected to face Spain in Sunday's Euro 2024 final, Cooper knows how key their victory in India was.

He told BBC Sport: "The final was a brilliant example of what we were trying, and starting, to implement in all of the teams. The football we played, playing as a team, we played on a big stage.

"We played with no fear and with great expression. We were 2-0 down and played brilliantly but they caught us on two attacks. We showed a great resilience and mentality to not panic, recover and fight back.

"For me it was a great reference point to what the youth teams were doing. We were live on BBC, it was the first time the wider public would have seen some of the players we see regularly now. It was a very important moment for them."

Gareth Southgate and Harry Kane will speak to the media at around 18:45 BST, previewing tomorrow's final with Spain.

The Olympiastadion is where the press conference and, of course, the game takes place and there's a smattering of fans about.

One group of England fans, draped in a Sheffield Wednesday England flag, were being interviewed by Spanish media, talking about just how much it will mean to them if the Three Lions win tomorrow.

England and Spain fans are all over Berlin now, some sightseeing and others enjoying some drinks in the sun.

England fans had taken over an Irish bar over the road from my hotel, draping the nearby bridge in flags.

It is a huge deal to commentate on England in a major final. A huge deal. It just comes naturally and you don’t think about it. It is the balance of what part commentator versus what part fan?

As the game goes on the fan bit does inevitably take over a little bit, it is bound to. The majority of our audience are wanting England to win. We all grow up as football fans and while we are doing our job that bit does come to the fore. I get very, very emotional when it comes to England and the closer it gets to Sunday...Chills.

Sunday's Euro 2024 final will, of course, be at Berlin's Olympiastadion, which played host to the 2006 World Cup final between Italy and France.

The Italians won 5-3 on penalties after normal time finished 1-1.

Just look at that, it will be some spectacle tomorrow night.

A loose definition of 'planned' here. I don't think you planned it at all Mark.

We had planned our NC500 across Scotland months ago. So we’ll be in a remote Scottish campsite in our campervan tomorrow, me, my wife and (tent-based!) 22-year-old, football mad son. My wife suggests we might want to keep the noise down… we’ll have the iPad on and it won’t be quiet. I’m sure our Scottish neighbours won’t mind at all… As Gooners, also hoping for a Saka winner (though we’ll take anything so long as England prevail) …

Whether this will be his final game, who knows, but during his time Gareth Southgate has given the English fans so many special moments.

The penalty shootout success in Russia, getting to the final at Wembley and Luke Shaw’s early goal after two minutes got us all thinking ‘could this be it?’ It wasn’t. But there have been so many special moments during his reign. When you look back, for a man that has changed the entire outlook and expectation levels around the national team, we will have moments where we can say, do you remember that?

Gareth Southgate has hit the quarter-finals at every major tournament, he has reached the semi-finals in three of them, and a now two finals – that is virtually unheard of in the wider picture.

Kobbie Mainoo is just a young man, who is enjoying being with England, enjoying playing football.

He doesn’t want to do anything else. The expectation will be different now, going off history with myself going to a tournament and the expectation of what that leads on to.

People will expect more from you and he will have to go through those blocks that I did.

But he’s so experienced at such a young age already, playing in the Premier League and being in that England squad and being around, hopefully, winners.

Manchester United is a massive club, so to be performing at such a massive club at a young age is impressive.

Can we please talk about Kobbie Mainoo...I know Lamine Yamal is getting all the hype but what a tournament Kobbie has had. For me, his best attribute is winning the ball back, it is incredible to watch, let alone his passing, composure, balance, awareness, vision, stamina - the list is endless. He deserves more praise and should have got man of the match on Wednesday. He is a shoo-in for young player of the tournament (or maybe player of the tournament) if we win the whole thing. He is what England have been missing for a long time. Him versus Rodri in the final will be a battle of the ages.

Having Kyle Walker, along with the likes of John Stones and Phil Foden with what Manchester City have achieved in recent years, means that there are some serial winners in this England side.

You talk about the tournament experience, there are eight players in the squad that played in the last Euros final [v Italy]. That experience all of a sudden will take the edge off it. Any apprehension or nerves will be taken away, because England players have been there and done it and won trophies at the highest level.
