Josh Keeley saved Derby's sixth penalty in Leyton Orient's shootout win over Derby County

League One Leyton Orient beat Derby County 6-5 on penalties to set up a mouth-watering FA Cup fourth-round tie against Premier League holders Manchester City.

The match finished level after 90 minutes through goals from Charlie Kelman and Dajaune Brown.

Neither side was able to find a breakthrough in extra time, with the hosts losing Sean Clare to a second yellow card as the game crept towards a shootout.

Both teams scored all five penalties before O's goalkeeper Josh Keeley saved from Callum Elder and Zech Obeiro stepped up to send the League One side through to the fourth round.

They will face last season's finalists City at Brisbane Road on the weekend of Saturday, 8 February.

For the third time this season, Leyton Orient won a tightly contested FA Cup tie.

For the third time, they were taken to extra time, and for the third time - goalkeeper Josh Keeley has been central to the story.

There was an element of deja vu for the stopper, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, who made a crucial save in the Os' first-round shootout win at Boreham Wood.

The 21-year-old then scored a header in the ninth minute of added time to rescue his side from an embarrassing exit against Oldham Athletic in the second round, with Dan Agyei scoring in added time of extra time to set up Tuesday's rearranged meeting with the Rams.

Orient deservedly took the lead as Kelman took his 11th goal of the season in style after the visitors failed to deal with the second ball in from a corner.

The lead lasted just four minutes as Brown finished off a nice Derby move, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing threading Marcus Harness in behind, before he squared for Brown to slide the ball under Keeley.

Corey Blackett-Taylor drew two fine saves from Keeley in the second half of a game with plenty of intensity but lacking in the quality needed in front of goal.

Derby substitute Tom Barkhuizen's effort was the closest either side came to a winner as it deflected and cannoned off the crossbar.

The Rams had the chance to win it right at the end but Gambia international Ebou Adams headed agonisingly wide of the post.

Keeley's sudden-death save from Elder set his team on the way to a dramatic victory again, earning them a tie against Pep Guardiola's side.

'The magic of the cup is alive' - reaction

Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens said:

"The players put an unbelievable effort in. We had players back from illness and it's an amazing night for the football club with a youth product scoring the winning penalty.

"I thought for the first 60 minutes we were the better team but we needed to pass the ball better at times.

"Derby are a good team and they have lightning wingers and I thought they could score on the counter-attack but the stadium felt alive tonight especially at the end.

"The magic of the FA Cup is alive and perhaps we can beat Man City in normal time. I'm delighted for the chairman."

Derby County boss Paul Warne speaking to BBC Radio Derby:

"I don't think we did enough to win the game. I don't think we were aggressive enough in the challenge.

"I thought we had moments of good play. We looked a little bit soft in the middle of the park in the first half. We didn't create enough, we didn't make the goalkeeper make enough saves.

"It was a pretty stalemate kind of night. I don't think they were any better than us and nor should they be."

On potential new players: "It might need new faces, it might need freshening up.

"I thought a few of the lads didn't perform as well tonight and we have to try and pick a team away from home that's going to be resolute but also create chances.

"They game had enough tonight to win, we made positive chances, but unfortunately tonight we didn't.

"We need something in the middle of the park, we need something out wide, we need more goal threat and that's what everyone's trying to do."
