Preston North End's Sam Greenwood scores his second goal against Harrogate Town from the penalty spot

A Milutin Osmajic hat-trick and two goals from Sam Greenwood helped Preston North End ease into the Carabao Cup third round with a 5-0 thrashing of Harrogate Town.

Greenwood opened the scoring for the Championship side with a free-kick in the 14th minute, before doubling the lead for the visitors shortly before half-time from the penalty spot.

Osmajic's goals were his first of the campaign, with a half-volley and tap-in in the first half before a low strike late in the match.

The Lillywhites made six changes from their league win over Luton Town at Deepdale as they came up against a Harrogate side who had won one of their opening three games in League Two.

The first goal of the game came from Greenwood - an impressive free-kick curled into the top corner of the Harrogate net from 25 yards that gave goalkeeper James Belshaw little chance.

Minutes later, Osmajic was brought down in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot. Greenwood made no mistake to double the lead.

Osmajic’s opening goal was an impressive one, striking home on the half volley from distance into the roof of the net.

Minutes later Preston played through the Harrogate defence, with the final pass setting up Osmajic to tap home from four yards.

He wrapped up his hat-trick with seven minutes remaining in the second half with a drilled effort across Belshaw into the bottom left-hand corner.
