Tranmere recorded their first League Two victory of the season after beating Walsall 1-0 at Prenton Park.

Omari Patrick’s first goal since joining from Sutton in the summer was the difference as Rovers remained unbeaten after three games.

The visitors had a glorious opportunity to open the scoring in the fifth minute when Jamille Matt was bundled over by Cameron Norman but Matt’s penalty was well saved by Luke McGee.

They were made to pay when Patrick drove home from 12 yards via a deflection in the 13th minute for his and Tranmere’s first league goal of the season.

The away side went in search of an equaliser before the interval with Charlie Lakin firing wide and McGee denying Conner Barrett.

After the break Walsall had a glorious chance to level, only for Josh Gordon to fire over the bar with just McGee to beat from six yards.

Matt came close to making amends for his earlier penalty miss only to see his header cleared off the line with 13 minutes remaining as Nigel Adkins’ side held on to take the points.
