Tranmere Rovers returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Newport County at Prenton Park.

Connor Jennings gave the hosts a first-half lead after keeping cool when put through on goalkeeper Nick Townsend.

Keiron Morris added a second just before the hour, tapping home after Townsend had tipped Luke Norris' effort on to the bar.

Norris had two further chances to put the game to bed, heading over the bar before Townsend saved a close-range effort.

Kyle Hudlin pulled one back for Newport after turning in Bryn Morris' free-kick from the back post to set up a dramatic final 10 minutes.

But while in the hunt for an equaliser, Newport went down to 10-men with Kyle Jameson sent off for a second bookable offence.

Newport County manager Nelson Jardim:

"Going [in] half-time losing the game I think was unfair for the boys.

"We tried to react second half, we did that. Their second goal kind of complicated things for us, but our reaction was there, we did score a goal.

"A draw overall would have been a fair result, but again disappointed obviously, but we have to look forward and the next game."
