Wycombe survived an upset with a tense 5-4 penalty shootout victory over League Two Bromley after a 1-1 draw to reach the Carabao Cup third round.

Bromley had the chance to win the tie on spot-kicks but Byron Webster missed the target with his side's fifth penalty.

And League One Wycombe scraped through when Will Hondermarck's effort crashed against the crossbar.

The game burst into life inside the opening five minutes as Magnus Westergaard headed home from six yards after a flowing Wycombe move.

Bromley did grow into the game and Marcus Dinanga, Ben Krauhaus and Nicke Kabamba had good opportunities to level proceedings but Wanderers goalkeeper Will Norris was in inspired form.

He could do nothing about the equaliser, however, when Jude Arthurs smashed a volley in off the crossbar 10 minutes before the break.

The second 45 was quieter but Alex Lowry nearly gave Wycombe the lead as his quick feet saw him beat three players before he lifted his shot over the bar with only Sam Long to beat.

James Tilley then drew a fine save from Long with 13 minutes remaining as the tie went to spot-kicks.

Both sides missed twice in the shootout before Hondermarck's sudden-death miss sent Wycombe through.
