  1. Three games, three lossespublished at 22:05 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Uefa Conference League qualifiers

A tough night all round as Derry City, Crusaders and Linfield all fall to 2-0 defeats.

With Derry booed off by their travelling contingent in Gibraltar, and coming off that League of Ireland loss to Sligo last time out, it's certainly been a week to forget for Ruaidhri Higgins' men.

Crusaders, with Declan Caddell in the dugout and Stephen Baxter watching on from the stands, will have expected better too from their trip to Wales but in truth European debutants Caernarfon Town were full value for their victory.

Linfield perhaps gave the best showing of the three, with that missed penalty in the first half looming large, but to concede twice from set-pieces won't have helped David Healy's mood on the flight home from Iceland.

Still, all three were away from home so at least will attempt comebacks on their own patch.

    That's for next week.

  2. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:54 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 2-0 Linfield

It's full time in Reykjavik and Emil Atlason's double strike means Linfield have some work to do in the second leg.

In a sense the scoreline is slightly harsh on the Blues as they were in no way outclassed but those two goals - both resulting from free kicks in and around the edge of the penalty area - proved crucial.

Linfield will still feel that if they can get an early goal in next week's second leg at Windsor Park, they can still turn the tie around.

  3. Postpublished at 21:51 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 2-0 Linfield

From a Kirk Millar corner, there's an almighty goalmouth scramble with Sam Roscoe adjudged to have got the final touch as the referee awards a goal kick, much to Linfield's frustration.

  4. INJURY TIMEpublished at 21:48 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 2-0 Linfield

We're into five minutes of stoppage time in Reykjavik.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:46 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 2-0 Linfield

There's a brief delay in play as Stjarnan's Orvar Eggertsson is stretchered off after going down inside his own penalty area.

Thankfully it doesn't look too serious and he's replaced by Orn Brink Haukur.

  6. Postpublished at 21:44 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 2-0 Linfield

Joel Cooper drills a shot from outside the area through a ruck of players but it whistles narrowly wide.

Linfield have five minutes plus stoppage time to reduce the deficit ahead of the second leg.

  7. Postpublished at 21:39 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 2-0 Linfield

The answer is no - at least not yet anyway - as Kirk Millar's delivery is headed behind for a corner.

  8. Postpublished at 21:38 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 2-0 Linfield

Kyle McClean is brought down on the edge of the penalty area.

Can Linfield be as prolific from this type of situation as Stjarnan have been?

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:36 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 2-0 Linfield

A substitution apiece as Hilmar Halldorsson comes on for Helgi Ingason for Stjarnan, while Josh Archer replaces Cammy Ballantyne in midfield for Linfield.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:31 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 2-0 Linfield

Linfield make their first change as Matthew Fitzpatrick replaces Chris McKee in attack.

Can he help find a way back into this game for the visitors?

  11. Off the line!published at 21:31 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 2-0 Linfield

So close for Linfield as, from a well-worked short corner, Kirk Millar's inswinging cross-shot is headed off the line by the alert Orvar Eggertsson.

That's the closest Linfield have come so far.

  12. Postpublished at 21:28 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 2-0 Linfield

Oli Omarsson cuts inside from the left and fires a right-foot shot over the crossbar.

A third Stjarnan goal now would be a disastrous blow for Linfield.

  13. Postpublished at 21:27 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 2-0 Linfield

Sam Roscoe heads wide for Linfield.

The visitors have managed to put some decent crosses into dangerous areas but, by and large, it has been a Stjarnan head that has been on the end of most of them.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:25 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 2-0 Linfield

The first change of the evening comes from the home side as Dan Laxdal replaces Kjartan Kjartansson.

How long will it be before David Healy responds with a personnel change for Linfield?

  15. goal

GOAL - Stjarnan 2-0 Linfieldpublished at 21:18 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Emil Atlason - 60mins

Disaster for Linfield as Emil Atlason's free kick initially ricochets off the visitors' defensive wall.

It comes back to Atlason who, almost hopefully swings a shot with his left foot but it deflects off a Linfield player to totally wrong-foot Chris Johns and ends up in the net.

Linfield's already uphill task has now got a whole lot steeper.

  16. Postpublished at 21:17 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 1-0 Linfield

Chris Shields brings down Oli Omarsson inside the 'D' of the penalty area - that was perilously close to a penalty but it's still a threatening situation.

  17. Postpublished at 21:15 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 1-0 Linfield

Kirk Millar scampers away down the left flank and cuts inside before attempting to shoot with his right foot.

The effort must have been deflected to take a lot of the pace off it because it spins harmlessly through to goalkeeper Mathias Rosenorn.

  18. Postpublished at 21:13 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 1-0 Linfield

Danger for Linfield as Stjarnan thread a ball through the visiting defence leaving Orvar Eggertsson bearing down on goal but Chris Johns advances quickly off his line to block with his body.

While Linfield are pressing for an equaliser, they will be mindful about keeping things tight at the other end as well.

  19. Postpublished at 21:06 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 1-0 Linfield

Linfield start the second period the in the same manner as they finished the first and force a corner inside the opening 60 seconds.

It comes to nothing but Linfield boss David Healy will hope that his side can continue to be in the ascendancy.

  20. KICK-OFFpublished at 21:03 British Summer Time 11 July 2024

    Stjarnan 1-0 Linfield

We're back underway with no changes in personnel.
