Lewis Wing scored twice as Reading continued their strong home form by brushing aside League One strugglers Cambridge 3-0 and moving up to sixth.

The Royals dominated most of the first half, with Cambridge goalkeeper Vicente Reyes forced into a series of fine saves to keep his side in the hunt at the interval.

But Reyes proved helpless as Reading scored three goals in 15 second-half minutes through Wing and Mamadi Camara.

Reading had won 10 of their previous 11 home games in all competitions this season but it was Cambridge who made the early running, with Korey Smith blazing over when well placed.

Yet Reading were soon into their stride. Jeriel Dorsett nodded a Chem Campbell cross against a post and Reyes had to make smart saves from Campbell, Sam Smith and Wing.

But he could do nothing to prevent Reading from going ahead four minutes after the break when Wing’s angled 20-yard drive whistled past him.

Home goalkeeper Joel Pereira had to beat away a fierce shot from Liam Bennett as United searched for the equaliser, but efforts from Camara and Wing settled it.

Camara lashed in from close range on the hour, after good work by Ben Elliott, before Wing, this time from 25 yards, rifled home another excellent finish in the 63rd minute.
