Wigan Athletic are set to host Carlisle United for a league game for the first time since December 1997, losing 2-0 under John Deehan.
This is only the 12th ever Football League meeting between Wigan and Carlisle – 10 took place between 1986 and 1997 and the other was a 1-1 draw earlier this season.
Wigan lost their final league match of 2022, a 4-1 defeat to Sunderland. They haven’t done so in consecutive years since a run of four between 2004 and 2007.
Carlisle United have won their final league match in four of their previous five years (D1), last losing their last game of a calendar year in 2017 against Coventry City.
