Beryly Lubala opened the scoring for Wycombe before Reading got one back through Harvey Knibbs

Reading came from a goal down to earn a point at League One leaders Wycombe in Noel Hunt's first game in charge of the Royals.

Wanderers forward Beryly Lubala opened the scoring, slotting home from six yards after a right-sided cross.

The Royals equalised 10 minutes later through Harvey Knibbs, the game level with one apiece at the break.

The second half was filled with chances for both sides and a penalty appeal when Reading's Sam Smith went down in the box but that was not given and neither team could find a winner.

Wycombe remain top of the league but now level on points with Wrexham who beat Burton Albion.

Reading stay in the top six, one point ahead of Bolton Wanderers who have played one game less, their tie with Bristol Rovers postponed on Saturday.

Reading, with Hunt taking charge following Ruben Selles' departure to Hull City, started the game well, pushing Wycombe back with most of the notable action being Royals pressure inside 10 minutes.

The strong winds provided by Storm Darragh quickly became a factor to be wary of, in the middle of the field players' shirts flapping in the wind and the swirling rain in Adams Park.

A few long and high passes also got knocked off course by the gusts.

It was not long before the home side took the lead, Wanderers captain Jack Grimmer crossing low from the right to find Lubala who tapped the ball into the net from close range.

He then antagonised the nearly 2,000 Reading fans in his celebration, putting his finger to his ear and then shushing them.

The away side then bit back just over 10 minutes later, Harvey Knibbs once again this season popping up with a goal, this his seventh of the season in all competitions.

A pass in behind that should have been controlled by a Wycombe defender ended up spilling in behind where Sam Smith pounced, his shot initially saved by Franco Ravizzoli.

Knibbs then picked up the loose ball and made no mistake, slotting home with his right foot before running off in celebration and then shushing the home fans himself.

In the second-half Wycombe started well and had a great chance to retake the lead, Dan Udoh was played through on goal and got to the ball before Reading's Pereira could in a 1v1 situation.

Defender Tyler Bindon then managed to get the right side of his man in retreat and after a heavy touch by Udoh, cleared the danger.

Reading then had a shout for a penalty just after the hour mark, Knibbs nodded the ball forward to Smith in the box who tried to play the ball around Wycombe keeper Ravizzoli but was brought down in the process.

Referee David Rock pointed the other way and booked Smith for a dive, the forward was in disbelief and so were the 1,900 away fans right behind that goal.

Wycombe countered dangerously late on, moving with real pace as Garath McCleary shot with venom from the left-hand side.

But Reading keeper Joel Pereira was on hand to made a brilliant save and palm it behind for a corner kick.
