Unless you are an Arsenal fan, there's a good chance you had no idea who Myles Lewis-Skelly was this time last year.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland certainly had no idea when the then-17-year-old made his Arsenal first team debut in a fiery 2-2 Premier League draw in September. He even asked him: "Who are you?"

It's fair to say that everyone knows now.

A decade on from joining Arsenal's youth system, Lewis-Skelly made 39 appearances in all competitions in 2024-25.

In March the 18-year-old made his senior England debut, and has started three of Thomas Tuchel's four matches in charge of the Three Lions.

Lewis Hall. Had an outstanding season at Newcastle before injury struck

    Dave in Lanzarote

Lewis Hall from Newcastle is the left back I'd want to sign on a new Football Manager save. Antonee Robinson is rubbish and terrible and definitely not the best full-back in the league leave him where he is I say. And send Harvey Elliott back to join him.

    Tim, Devon

Steady on Tim, that's two-goal England Under-21s hero Harvey Elliott you're talking about!

Yesterday Burnley published a clip from 1996 classic Mission: Impossible, in which Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) has his head placed in a sack and is taken to see somebody called Max.

The sack is removed and sitting in front of Cruise is..... Burnley's new goalkeeper Max Weiss, external. Obviously.

If you are in the least bit social media savvy, then you might know that Burnley have a reputation for confirming new signings with quirky announcement videos.

The arrival of Quilindschy Hartman is no different.

They've cut the Dutchman into a film, external (we're not sure which one, please help us) in which a child is chasing a paper boat along a gully of rainwater.

When the boat dissapears down a drain, the child peers in and finds.... Quilindschy Hartman, of course.

It's all rather odd but brilliant at the same time. Honest.

Best Left back.....Lewis Hall. He's gone off everyone's radar since his injury, but watching Livramento in the U21s makes me think Newcastle have England's future on both sides of the defence sorted. Hard-working, can put a tackle in AND find space and killer passes

  9. 'I want a legacy and to win trophies' - Lewis-Skellypublished at 12:58 British Summer Time

After signing his new five-year contract with Arsenal, Myles Lewis-Skelly told the club's website: "I’m so proud and happy. I know those words are simple, but I think they sum up how I feel signing for this club. I’m a fan and it’s like a dream come true.

"I've embodied the values of Hale End and come through. I've still got a lot of years ahead of me, so if I can keep staying humble and being a good person, that's the most important thing to me."I know I've taken a lot of experience from the games about the positive moments, the mistakes that I've made. I'm definitely more ready now for the next season. I just want to keep learning and keep improving."I want a legacy. I want to win everything there is to win in the game. I want to win trophies on the biggest stages whilst being a person that's always learning and stays grounded, which is so important."

Well, Liverpool look to be going from strength to strength this summer.

And one club that will be looking to challenge them for the Premier League title next season are Arsenal, who have themselves announced a new deal for Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Milos Kerkez spend his early days in football at clubs in Serbia, Austria and Hungary including Rapid Vienna, Vrbas and Hodmezovasarhelyi.

Early in 2021, Milos Kerkez was convinced by five-time Champions League winner Paolo Maldini to choose AC Milan he left Hungarian side Gyor.

He was given some minutes in pre-season in summer 2021 but always ranked behind Milan's more senior left-backs Theo Hernandez and Fode Ballo-Toure.

Kerkez departed for AZ Alkmaar in January 2022 having never played a competitive match for the Serie A club.

The Hungarian told journalist Gianluca di Marzio that asking Milan to leave on a permanent basis was "the best decision of my career".

The following season Kerkez played in all but one Eredivisie match as AZ finished third, and he helped his side reach the Europa Conference League semi-finals where they lost 3-1 on aggregate to West Ham.

From there he moved to Bournemouth for an undisclosed fee in summer 2023, where he quickly became one of the standout stars.

With Liverpool signing Milos Kerkez and Myles Lewis-Skelly agreeing a new long-term deal at Arsenal today, we have just seen deals involving two of Premier League's most promising left-backs.

It got us thinking who among Kerkez and Lewis-Skelly is a better left-back? And who is the best in that position in the Premier League right now?

Rayan Ait-Nouri? Marc Cucurella? Antonee Robinson? Or entirely someone else?

Get in touch using the details above and let us know your thoughts.

  13. How did Kerkez perform for Bournemouth?published at 12:32 British Summer Time

In short, Milos Kerkez was a top performer for the Cherries.

Adventuring up the left side, Kerkez played a major part in Bournemouth's success last season.

The left-back ranked second for the most distanced covered among all Premier League full-backs in 2024-25 - behind only Fulham's Antonee Robinson - and third for most sprints.

He made the third-most crosses from open play in the Premier League and had seven goal involvements (two goals and five assists).

Defensively, Kerkez may not be the game's most prolific tackler, but he is still firmly in the Premier League's top 20 full-backs for interceptions (1.25) and ball recoveries (4.54) per 90 minutes.

Arguably his best game of the season came in Bournemouth's 2-1 home win over champions Manchester City in November when he set up both goals after lung-busting runs and pinpoint crosses.

"Kerkez was brilliant, not only offensively but defensively as well," former Manchester City defender Micah Richards told BBC Match of the Day that evening.

Former Bournemouth defender Joe Partington told BBC Radio Solent a few months later: "He's a standout player. He's involved in moments that define the outcomes of games."

In March, former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha told BBC Sport: "Kerkez is one of the best left-back prospects in the Premier League."

  14. How will Kerkez fit in at Liverpool?published at 12:27 British Summer Time

Liverpool currently have an established left-back in Andy Robertson, who played in 33 of 38 league games in the 2024-25 campaign.

But Robertson trailed Kerkez in key areas like assists, distance covered and possession won in the season just ended and is a target for Atletico Madrid.

"If they want that style of full-back, then Kerkez has already shown he can do it in the Premier League," said BBC Radio Solent's Bournemouth commentator Jordan Clarke.

"He's very self-confident. That's what comes across and what you hear from those in the club. He'll back himself going to a big club."

That view is shared by Liverpool fan and podcaster Lukleiva who told BBC Radio Merseyside this month: "Kerkez wouldn't come in and only play half the games.

"He's one of the breakout stars of the Premier League season. You definitely want Kerkez [to start].

"Whether that is something Robertson is willing to side with or whether he'd then want to move on, that's something they need to talk about."

Kerkez's arrival will probably signal the end of the road at Anfield for either Robertson or second-choice left-back Konstantinos Tsimikas.

Having made this huge outlet, Liverpool can't just keep spending.

They've got to make sure they bring some money back in so, I think that means there will be some reluctant sales and I think Jarell Quansah will fall into that category - looks like he's off to Bayer Leverkusen.

It's always a shame when local talent leaves but Liverpool have the highest standards and would he have got a lot of game time this season? That's the question. I think Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are the established first choice.

Then you have others like Darwin Nunez who I think personally has had his chance at Liverpool, hasn't done it and its time for him to move on to pastures new which again, may see Liverpool want to strengthen the attacking positions even further.

After a quiet summer a year ago, Liverpool aren't resting on their laurels after winning the Premier League title.

The £40m signing of Milos Kerkez takes their spending up to £171.5m this window, not including add-ons.

The £100m fee paid for German midfielder Florian Wirtz could rise to as much as £116m.

More from new Liverpool full-back Milos Kerkez:

"After this, I'll go home and in my hometown enjoy a few days, and then I can't really wait to come back and put the training kit on and start to train and prepare for the season.

"I just want to thank everyone for really showing me big love, even before it will be announced now.

"And keep supporting the team like you support always, because you're the biggest fan base in the world.

"I'm going to give everything – absolutely everything – to win trophies with the club and to hopefully score some goals at Anfield. I can't wait to hear the roar. And see you soon."

Myles Lewis-Skelly has signed a new five-year contract at Arsenal.

As BBC Sport reported last week, the 18-year-old has put pen to paper before entering the final year of his previous deal, committing his future to the club until 2030.

The new and improved contract is a reward for a breakthrough campaign last season, which saw Lewis-Skelly make 39 appearances in all competitions.
