England manager Thomas Tuchel praised Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden's effort and application but says he has spoken to the pair about what they need to offer on the ball, ahead of England's World Cup qualifier against Latvia.

"I have spoken to both of them. They know that I appreciate the effort especially off the ball," said Tuchel.

Former Republic of Ireland captain Roy Keane told ITV after England's victory over Albania that "Rashford and Foden certainly didn't do that tonight [make a good impression].

"Foden won't have that problem coming up of where he wants to play because he won't be playing - that's a bigger problem for him."

England over the next 10 years are going to be built around Jude Bellingham, right?

Gibbs-White could end up being the right player, in the wrong generation.

    Like Michael Carrick...

I would absolutely to see Morgan Gibbs-White tonight. He's been in stellar form for Notts Forest. It just feels like he's built for the biggest stage. Problem is, Bellingham seems to have locked in the 10 position, Tuchel unlikely to try shoehorn him in.

Definitely start Bowen, he's always a threat and really underrated. Unlike Foden, who absolutely isn't a winger and is way down the pecking order in the middle - his place in this squad should be solely as a great super sub for Jude if and when he's getting tired. Happy for Rashford to have another try, if not then Eze would be absolutely worth a go on the left. And it must be Guehi's turn tonight for sure.

They won't. England are overwhelming favourites and the thing about this year, and I actually said it Friday night. It's a phoney war because the qualifying group with the exception of going to Temerin or Belgrave when they play Serbia. England will not be tested.

It's going to be a similar game where they [Latvia] will sit deep and try to frustrate England for as long as possible. They are ranked 148 in the world, so England will win it's just a question of when England will score that first goal after breaking them down

Well I was going to suggest Tino got a start.... but that's out. After that keep a settled defence and work on stuff up top - Foden and Rashford had their chance and didn't take it. Go with genuine pace up front and get Kane in the box not the halfway line.

Lewis-Skelly has to start. Too many England teams of yesteryear have fallen down by not rewarding good performances. Too many great players have fallen out of love with playing for the country because they don’t feel recognised. We cannot make that same mistake with MLS.

  9. Tuchel 'not afraid' to make changes as injured Gordon withdrawspublished at 11:12 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March

England manager Thomas Tuchel says he is "not afraid" to make changes for Monday's World Cup qualifier against Latvia, while Anthony Gordon has been ruled out through injury.

The Newcastle forward sustained a hip injury on Friday after coming on as a late substitute in the Three Lions' opening qualifier against Albania.

After England's 2-0 win, Tuchel described the injury as "a bit worrying" but played it down on Sunday, saying Gordon requires a couple of days' rest.

The 24-year-old had a scan on Saturday before returning to his club for further assessment.

"It's just a matter of pain, there's a big bruise around the hip region and he's unable to walk properly," said Tuchel.

With Gordon injured and Foden having a poor game against Albania, I'd like to see Eze and Bowen play out wide against Latvia. They might not be first choice if everyone is fit, but they're both very talented players.

Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento has been left out of England's squad for Monday's World Cup qualifier against Latvia.

The 22-year-old was an unused substitute for the 2-0 win against Albania at Wembley on Friday.

Thomas Tuchel selected a 26-man squad for fixtures against Albania and Latvia but Uefa rules state that a 23-man matchday squad must be picked for each match.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White and Liverpool defender Jarrel Quansah, who both missed Friday's match, return to the squad while Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon drops out after returning to his club following injury.

Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has been left out again as the Three Lions prepare to host Latvia at Wembley (19.45 GMT).

"We have to get the process right to find the best group," Tuchel said.

"If that means we leave very good and talented players out of the squad this can happen. In the next 16 months it is important we find the right team and not the most talented 26 players.

"We need to get the team right. We need to get the team spirit right because it's one thing to play qualifiers, it's another thing to play tournament football."

Gareth Southgate would have normally told the players before the game, but Thomas Tuchel from what we witnessed against Albania, and John Murray asked him this yesterday. They kept the team news very tight, so it wasn't leaked at all.

It used to irritate Gareth [Southgate] when the team news used to get leaked to the media. Thomas Tuchel said sometimes he tells the players on the morning of the game, sometimes he tells them in the afternoon.
