Newport striker Luke Jephcott is yet to score in a competitive fixture for the Exiles
League One Leyton Orient eased into the second round of the EFL Cup with a 4-1 win over League Two Newport County.
The hosts were ahead after 41 seconds, as Daniel Agyei found the bottom corner from the edge of the 18-yard box.
Orient doubled their lead on the stroke of half time, as Diallang Jaiyesimi met Sean Clare's corner to head home.
Newport continued to struggle at set pieces, and another Orient corner lead to their third of the match with Brandon Cooper's header making it 3-0 as he scored against his former club.
The Exiles had a glimmer of hope when James Clarke headed in Anthony Glennon's free-kick with half an hour left to play.
Any chances of a dramatic comeback were dashed, however, when Charlie Kelman finished off a swift Orient counter-attack to make it 4-1.
Victory means Orient will be in the hat for the second-round draw, which takes place after Leeds United v Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening.
Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens told BBC Radio London:
"It was a positive performance with four goals, and it could have been more.
"I'm really pleased, we were in control for most of the game, Newport played some good stuff which could have been difficult if we didn't get the press right.
"In two games we have looked good out of possession, I want to get to really good."
Newport County manager Nelson Jardim told BBC Radio London:
"It was disappointing, we could see today that we are trying to build something but we have a problem we need to address on the defensive side of the game.
"It's an ugly problem that we need to address, especially after conceding four goals.
"We have to be better, we needed to make changes but it was just not good enough."
