Cameron McGeehan's equaliser earned Northampton a point at fellow League One strugglers Shrewsbury.

The hosts went close to the opener just past the half-hour mark when George Lloyd picked up the ball in the box and shot, but his effort was deflected behind for a corner.

The Cobblers' Samy Chouchane had an effort from outside the box just before half-time, but his shot went wide of the post.

Northampton nearly found the net twice late into the first half through McGeehan and Aaron McGowan, but the hosts cleared the ball off the line twice in quick succession.

Shrewsbury broke the deadlock on the hour mark when John Marquis' shot was saved but found its way to Aaron Pierre, who converted from close range.

The Cobblers equalised just three minutes later as McGeehan got on the end of a floated free-kick to the near post.

Gareth Ainsworth's Shrewsbury went close to a second in the 70th minute, but Josh Kayode's headed effort found the gloves of Nik Tzanev.
