Carlisle could have moved off the bottom of the table in Mark Hughes' bow, but their 1-0 turned to a 1-2 and they remain five points from safety.

Morecambe remain in the bottom two with them after losing to high-flying Notts County.

Accrington were the only side in the current bottom six to get a point today.

Barrow leapfrogged Gillingham by beating them, while Newport County's third win in a row mean they are cruising away from any relegation fears.

What had looked like a procession to the League Two title for Walsall now looks interesting, with one point from the last 12 available opening the door for Notts County and Doncaster.

The lead at the top is now down to six points, but second to seventh are separated by only five points.

Crewe are also faltering in their hope of getting out of the fourth tier. Their defeat today sees them drop out of the play-off places.

AFC Wimbledon and Port Vale had contrasting levels of excitement in their draws but stay in the top seven.

Shrewsbury's win at Rotherham and Burton's draw with Blackpool leaves them both four points short of safety.

It could have been even better for the Brewers had they not conceded an injury time equaliser to Blackpool.

Cambridge United stay bottom with their draw at Lincoln and Crawley surrendered a 3-1 lead at Bolton to lose 4-3 and sink to 23rd place.

  5. Charlton on the movepublished at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time

Stockport County's lunchtime win over Barnsley moves them to within two points of third-placed Wrexham and six of the automatic promotion places.

Huddersfield stay fifth with a goalless draw against Reading but Charlton take advantage of Leyton Orient's FA Cup activities to leapfrog their London rivals into sixth place.

Bolton's dramatic win over Crawley pushes them into contention.

Walsall's route to League One has taken a detour with three losses in their last four. Today's defeat came after Colchester turned them around.

Mark Hughes' reign as basement boys Carlisle's manager initially started well after going a goal up in five minutes but Grimsby made it a day to forget by taking the points in a 2-1 triumph.

Notts County took advantage of Doncaster's week off by leaping up to second with a 2-0 win over Morecambe.

Barrow, Newport County, Fleetwood, Bromley and Salford also pick up wins, while AFCWimbledon were held to a forgettable goalless draw by Accrington - a match which saw no shots on target.

It was madness at the Toughsheet Community Stadium with seven goals in the second-half seeing Bolton come from 3-1 down to beat Crawley 4-3.

A Rushian Hepburn-Murphy brace added to by Will Swan had Crawley in control after Jordi Osei-Tutu had initially equalised.

Alex Murphy brought Bolton back into it and Josh Sheehan equalised.

Crawley then had Rory Feely sent-off and a Charlie Barker own goal deep into 12 minutes of injury time gave Steven Schumacher his first win in charge of Bolton.

There was a huge win for Shrewsbury in their battle against the drop with Taylor Perry and John Marquis on target in a 2-1 victory at Rotherham who had equalised through Hakeem Odoffin.

James Gibbons earned Cambridge United a point at Lincoln in a 1-1 draw after Freddie Draper had put the home side ahead.

Joe Gardner was sent-off late in the game for Lincoln.

  8. 'The Saddlers have lost again on the road'published at 17:10 Greenwich Mean Time

    FT: Colchester 2-1 Walsall

    Tom Marlow
    BBC WM commentator

The Saddlers have lost again on the road against a team who have only got two wins in their last 15 matches. Walsall really don't like their trips to Essex.

It had looked so healthy for the Saddlers midway inside this second half, with the Charlie Lakin goal, but Walsall couldn't hold onto that lead.

Walsall could not get that equaliser like they did last Saturday against Salford. The players have gone over to the travelling fans, the 450-plus that have made the journey down to Essex this afternoon.

They are winless in four, first time they have lost three on the road since April 2023.

  9. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:56 Greenwich Mean Time

    Colchester 2-1 Walsall

It is another defeat for Walsall.

Despite taking the lead they were beaten by Colchester on the road and slip to a fourth game without a win.

They still have a six-point gap to now second placed side Notts County.

The win for Danny Cowley's side moves them up two places to 11th in the League Two table.

  10. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time

    Huddersfield 0-0 Reading

    It ends all-square.

Dion Charles came the closest to winning the game for Huddersfield with two efforts just wide while Josh Koroma forced the Reading goalkeeper Joe Pereira into a late save.

The visitors offered little going forward with Mamadi Camara seeing his hooked shot just wide.

  12. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:54 Greenwich Mean Time

    Burton 1-1 Blackpool

    Blackpool snatch a late point.

Albie Morgan's diving header from Sam Silvera's cross stretches Blackpool's unbeaten run to eight games in League One but Burton will be kicking themselves.

The Brewers led through Rumarn Burrell's sixth goal of the season and could, and maybe should have been further ahead with Burrell, Jack Armer and Charlie Webster coming close to extending their lead.

Burton are six unbeaten but this might feel like a defeat.

  13. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:53 Greenwich Mean Time

    Notts County 2-0 Morecambe

A big three points for the home side!

Two second half goals were enough for County to secure all three points against strugglers Morecambe.

They move up one position to second in the table and six points behind leaders Walsall.

  14. League Two updatepublished at 16:53 Greenwich Mean Time

Fleetwood look like they have secured all three points as Mark Helm makes it 2-0 over Cheltenham in the 92nd minute.

Likewise Barrow who have made it 3-0 at home to Gillingham. Tyler Smith with the cherry on the cake.
