What can be done to improve England's atmosphere problem?

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke speaking to BBC Scotland: "On the performance side of it, you have to understand how hard we worked out of possession.

"When they scored the goal, the shackles came off a bit and from there we finished the game strong.

"The Greeks had a lot of the ball first half but they weren't carving us open.

"Football is a 90-minute game and you have to make sure you come out of it with a positive result. 3-1 maybe flatters us, but we did enough to win the game.

"It gives us three points and takes us one step closer to what we want to do."

Not a bad debate topic, that.

Does Morgan Rogers make the World Cup squad (should England get there)? Will Jude Bellingham start England's first group match? And what do you make of Tuchel's team-first approach?

  4. 'No easy way back for Bellingham as Rogers vindicates Tuchel's strategy'published at 08:26 BST

Thomas Tuchel may have expressed public displeasure with England's fans after the emphatic Wembley win against Wales, but the performance of his players will have left him feeling only the warm glow of vindication.

Tuchel delivered a highly-critical and unusually blunt verdict from any coach in the direction of his own "silent" supporters after a 3-0 stroll was effectively wrapped up inside the first 20 minutes.

It was, however, another message delivered by the German manager that will carry wider significance as England gather momentum towards next summer's World Cup.

Tuchel's words stretched way beyond the shockwaves that greeted Jude Bellingham's exclusion when he named his latest England squad.

He made it crystal clear that England's star system was over, that players in possession could cement their places by sheer weight of performances, the biggest names no longer guaranteed an automatic recall.

England victory in the Wembley friendly must be placed in the context of Welsh opponents with eyes seemingly fixed on their vital World Cup qualifier against Belgium on Monday, but this was still a night with a large measure of satisfaction for Tuchel's strategy.

Tuchel made it clear he is picking an England team, not individuals. He even stated: "We are not collecting the most talented players. We are trying to build a team. Teams win trophies, no-one else."

Rogers, on the evidence of England's past two games, is fast becoming the poster boy for the new identity Tuchel wants to create.

  5. What happens if Scotland finish second in Group C?published at 08:23 BST

    Scotland 3-1 Greece

Given the goal difference disparity already - Denmark are already five goals better off - Scotland's fate might well lie in a play-off.

Second in the group still offers a route to the finals, with the 12 runners-up - plus the four best Nations League group winners who failed to finish in the top two of their sections - drawn into four play-off paths.

Each of those will have two one-legged semi-finals - with the seeded team at home - before a final.

Here are the teams currently in second place:

    • Northern Ireland (level with third-paced Germany after two games)
    • Kosovo (after two games)
    • Scotland
    • Iceland (after two games)
    • Georgia (level on points with third-placed Turkey after two games)
    • Armenia (after two games)
    • Poland (level with third-placed Finland after five games)
    • Bosnia-Herzegovina (after six games)
    • Italy (level with third-placed Israel after four games)
    • Belgium (level with third-placed Wales after four games)
    • Albania (after five games)
  6. Could Scotland finish top with 10 points?published at 08:19 BST

It is possible but extremely unlikely, especially when you consider Denmark are already on seven points and have two home games - including one against Belarus - to play.

Scotland, meanwhile, have to go to Greece - albeit to face a side with nothing but pride on the line - before the Danes come to Hampden in the finale.

We can use the Champions League as a case study to determine what 10 points might get you. Uefa's premier club competition had the same four-team, six-game format until last season.

A look at all eight sections across the 2023-24 campaign shows 10 points would have been enough to guarantee top spot in just three of those groups.

The encouraging news, however, is that 10 points would have ensured second place in every group.

Full credit to Scotland. Not at their best, in fact quite poor but came back, stuck to the task and got a huge win. Looks like a showdown with Denmark at Hampden! Can't wait.

  10. How Scotland can seal World Cup play-off by Sundaypublished at 08:06 BST

    Scotland 3-1 Greece

    Scotland

Scotland could be guaranteed a World Cup play-off by the time we go to bed on Sunday. Or they could be clear in their qualifying group with two games to play.

Why? Well, Scotland's astonishing pickpocketing of Greece on Thursday means they welcome pointless Belarus to Hampden on Sunday knowing a win will give them 10 points from four qualifiers.

At the same time, the desperate Greeks will be in Denmark trying to salvage their own hopes.

Defeat in Glasgow cut their potential maximum points total to 12. They now travel to Copenhagen to face a side who swept them aside 3-0 in Athens in September.

If they lose - and Scotland get the job done - Greece are done in Group C. Unable to catch the top two. Consigned to third place.

Denmark would be level with Scotland on 10 points but ahead on goal difference, leaving the two to battle it out for top spot in November.

But should the Greeks draw or win, they would stay alive while allowing Steve Clarke's side to leap over the Danes into top spot in the section.

A first men's World Cup since 1998 would be within the Scots' grasp.

Wales had nothing to gain last night we were easily beaten by a far better team. We lost ranking points. Fitness and confidence going into our most important game against Belgium it’s stupid. Why didn’t we play a friendly against a team at the same standard as us?

    Quite easily.

Morgan Rogers scored from close range in the third minute and then Rogers' Aston Villa team-mate Ollie Watkins - in for injured captain Harry Kane - doubled England's lead eight minutes later.

Bukayo Saka scored a brilliant third with a curling finish after 20 minutes on a night where England rarely put a foot wrong.

Scotland face pointless Belarus at Hampden Park on Sunday before returning in November to round off their World Cup qualifying campaign.

A result this weekend would go a long way to ensuring qualification and take some pressure off of the difficult trip to Greece next month.

    • Belarus (h) - 12 October
    • Greece (a) - 15 November
    • Denmark (h) - 18 November

Scotland's victory over Greece means they now sit second in Group C with seven points, level on points with leaders Denmark.

The result means Steve Clarke's side have a four point gap over Greece in third while Belarus are planted to the bottom on zero points.

If Scotland defeat Belarus on Sunday and Greece are defeated in Denmark, Clarke's men will be guaranteed one of the top two places in the group, ensuring at worst they will be in the play-offs for the finals next summer.

Right then, we'll start with Scotland who pulled off a sensational comeback at Hampden.

Steve Clarke's side were being outplayed and trailed at home to Greece in the 64th minute when Ryan Christie equalised following a corner.

Lewis Ferguson's first international goal helped secure an unlikely lead with 10 minutes to go, and Lyndon Dykes added a third late on.

Like last night's Traitors, the match was as chaotic as it was dramatic. And it gave Scotland a huge boost in World Cup qualifying...
