Kyreece Lisbie's superb late equaliser rescued Colchester a point in their 1-1 draw with Tranmere at the JobServe Community Stadium.
Tranmere took a 15th-minute lead when Connor Jennings swept a low shot past Matt Macey from close range after Cameron Norman had headed Richie Smallwood's pass into the area, following the hosts' inability to clear a corner.
The visitors almost added to their advantage nine minutes later when Omari Patrick's 25-yard free-kick was saved by Macey, before Colchester debutant Jaden Williams fired just wide.
Patrick sent a first-time shot wide from a good position in the area for Tranmere.
Colchester came close to an equaliser on the stroke of half-time when Will Goodwin's effort from 20 yards dropped just wide but opportunities were few and far between for both sides after the break.
However, Lisbie levelled when he collected Jack Tucker's pass in the area before lifting a superb shot into the top corner of the net for his first goal for the club, as the spoils were shared.
