    Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola on Bournemouth's style of play: "I wouldn't say they are chaotic. They gave a special way of playing and it works with the players and the ideas that they have. Every team plays in a specific way and they do it really well. Other teams are more direct, other teams want more crosses."

On if he learns from Iraola: "Yes, all of them. There are many."

City fan here. For me, we aren't even favourites to beat a superb Bournemouth team let alone win the cup! Bournemouth, Villa, Forest and Brighton are all excellent teams and arguably better than us this season. Why City are considered favourites is beyond me.

Pep Guardiola is aiming to join a select band of managers with three FA Cup wins to their name this season.

After victories over Watford in 2019 and Manchester United in 2023, Guardiola is aiming to become only the eighth manager who has won the trophy three times.

Only Bill Nicholson, Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger have managed it since the World War II.

City are the last 'big' club standing but City lost on their last visit to the Vitality Stadium in November.

  7. How open is the FA Cup this year?published at 12:12 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March

The FA Cup quarter-final line-up this season looks very different.

Fourteen-time record winners Arsenal? Out in the third round by Manchester United. The 13-time champions themselves – out too.

Chelsea, Tottenham, and Liverpool, each with eight FA Cup wins, have all been sent packing.

That means the five most successful teams in the competition’s history are absent from this year’s last eight - something that is very rare.

I think when you look at the remaining sides, you see what has made the Premier League so exciting this season. Bournemouth, Palace, Brighton, Forest, Villa - all sides who have upped the quality of their games in recent seasons, all easily capable of beating the big boys, and the myth of the "big 6" finally being dissolved. And a historic side like Preston in the FA Cup mix too.

FA Cup fever is well and truly upon us, but don't forget about the return of the Premier League on Tuesday.

Manchester United take a trip to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest and they may have some defensive reinforcements.

Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire have all been spotted taking part in training at Carrington today.

  10. Brighton's secret weapon in Dutch defender van Heckepublished at 11:59 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March

Brighton v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 17:15 GMT)

Jan Paul Van HeckeImage source, Getty Images

Football tactics writer Ninad Barbadikar on the importance of Jan Paul van Hecke to Brighton's system: "Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has spoken of the importance of courage from players executing his football and, in Jan Paul van Hecke, he has one of the finest ball-playing centre-backs in the Premier League.

"The Dutchman is the key at the back for Brighton to break through opposition lines and then find his team-mates in space, who will progress the attack further.

"Not only is the 24-year-old a reliable defender, but his ability to find Brighton's attackers between the opposition lines helps turn defence into attack in no time.

"On top of that, he also has the most number of progressive carries in the league this season, averaging 10.34 progressive carries per match.

"Van Hecke has accumulated the fifth highest number of pass attempts from open-play in 2024-25, attempting 1,773 passes in total, underlining his importance for Hurzeler."

As a neutral, I'd prefer to see Forest win the FA cup because I think they really deserve it after the season they've had. As much of an achievement as reaching the Champions League is, especially their positions in the seasons prior, some silverware would really make it memorable for decades to come, much like Leicester winning the league will be.

  16. When the last eight won the FA Cuppublished at 11:28 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March

Incredibly, only half of the last eight have won the FA Cup

    • Preston North End - 1888-1889 & 1937-1938
    • Aston Villa - 1886-87, 1894-95, 1896-97, 1904-05, 1912-12, 1919-20, 1956-57
    • Nottingham Forest - 1897-1898 & 1958-1959
    • Manchester City - 1903–04, 1933–34, 1955–56, 1968–69, 2010–11, 2018–19 & 2022–23
    • Crystal Palace - never (lost two finals)
    • Brighton & Hove Albion - never (lost one final)
    • Fulham - never (lost one final)
    • Bournemouth - never
  17. Sutton predicts: Brighton v Nottingham Forestpublished at 11:24 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March

    Chris Sutton
    BBC Sport football expert

Brighton will see this as the chance to get revenge for their 7-0 defeat at the City Ground at the start of February.

I am sure some people felt the wheels had come off for Seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler after that result, but instead his side have bounced back and gone on a great run of six wins and one draw in all competitions.

Sometimes getting thrashed like that can have a positive effect on a team, and clear the air.

I remember losing 7-1 at Blackburn Rovers in October 1992, when I was a centre-half for Norwich City, but we had a crate of beer on the coach home to put things right and we were still top of the Premier League table at Christmas. I did get moved up front after that though.

As for Nottingham Forest, they are the only team left in the FA Cup where I could understand it if they rested players this weekend, because of their league position.

They play Manchester United on Tuesday and the finish line is in sight for my boyhood team to finish third and secure Champions League football.

That's why it's disappointing to hear about Chris Wood getting injured while playing for New Zealand this week.

Hopefully it is not serious, but it is a blow for Forest if they are without their main number nine for any length of time.

Their game plan won't change without Wood - they will sit deep and attack on the break, it is just a question on whether it is their A team who face Brighton or not, and my hunch is that Nuno Espirito Santo will make a few changes.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-0

  18. How Welbeck's FA Cup goal left Ferguson 'buzzing'published at 11:20 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March

Brighton v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 17:15 GMT)

After Danny Welbeck scored the extra-time winner against Newcastle to send Brighton into the FA Cup quarter-finals, an unexpected name popped up on his mobile phone.

"[Sir Alex Ferguson] actually phoned me after the Newcastle goal," he told Football Focus.

"He talked about the goal and the performance. He was buzzing and to have that sort of connection, he is a manager who is always looking out for his players, always wants the best for them, and still to this day is in contact."

Welbeck's career started under Ferguson at Manchester United where he was part of the squad that won the Premier League in 2013.

The striker moved to Arsenal the following year and helped them to lift the FA Cup twice, something he is now hoping to help Brighton achieve as the Seagulls prepare to host Nottingham Forest in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

  19. 'There's three things that made us strong in the past'published at 11:15 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March

Brighton v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 17:15 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler spoke about the strengths of his team that made them a tough opposition this season:

"There are three things that made us strong in the past - intensity, we try to outwork and outrun opponents. We need to have togetherness - we need to stick together not only in good phases but also in negative phases.

"The last thing is, in this phase of the season, we need to have the belief. And I have the biggest belief in this group - the belief that they can win and that they can achieve a season everyone remembers.

"But if you want to show all three things then it's important we don't force it."
