League Two's bottom side Newport County produced a stunning performance to beat Harrogate Town 3-0 at Exercise Stadium.

The Exiles needed a response after falling to the foot of the table last time out with defeat against Cheltenham Town, and Dave Hughes' side started strongly in North Yorkshire.

Courtney Baker-Richardson put the visitors ahead after 12 minutes, reacting quickest to a scramble in the box to poke the ball into the net.

An own goal from Harrogate defender Bobby Faulkner doubled Newport's lead on 49 minutes, deflecting Kai Whitmore's cross into his own net.

And Whitmore was involved four minutes later as his pass found Cameron Antwi, who turned away from one defender before finding the bottom corner.

Whitmore almost got on the scoresheet himself, but was unfortunate to see his shot crash off the crossbar, while at the other end Cameron Evans cleared a late Harrogate chance off the line.

Newport remain rooted to the foot of the table, as Crawley Town also won 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. Harrogate fall to 19th and are now just two points above the relegation places.
