  2. What else to look forward to tonightpublished at 15:14 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February

    Champions League

Club Brugge travel to the Gewiss Stadium, Italy, with a 2-1 lead over Atalanta and an eye on a spot in the round of 16. The winner faces Lille or Aston Villa.

And Monaco will be looking to take the game to Benfica in Lisbon as the Ligue 1 side are trailing 1-0 following the first leg. Whoever progresses plays Barcelona or Liverpool at the next stage.

  3. AC Milan on verge of Euro exitpublished at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February

AC Milan v Feyenoord (Tues, 17:45)

    AC Milan

AC Milan go into tonight's second leg of the Champions League knockout play-offs a goal down thanks to Dutch side Feyenoord taking an early lead through Igor Paixao.

Taking place at the San Siro, the seven-time winners will be hoping home advantage will be enough to help spark a comeback - the Italians have won their last three European fixtures there.

However, Milan will be missing several players including Emerson Royal, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Alessandro Florenzi.

Former player turned senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic told the AC Milan club website: "We need to put in a different performance to the one in Rotterdam. We're counting on our fans for a lift.

"The team needs to be focused, aggressive and more clinical, and go into the game like it's a final. It's important to win. We absolutely need a result if we're to go through. We'll need great teamwork."

Progressing to the last 16 will see AC Milan or Feyenoord face either Inter Milan or Arsenal.

    Alasdair Lamont

Kasper Schmeichel believes Celtic can upset the odds against Bayern Munich in their Champions League play-off second leg, saying "nothing worth achieving is ever easy".

Schmeichel was famously part of the Leicester team that shocked world football by winning the English Premier League in 2016.

Asked if overturning the 2-1 deficit away from home would be up there alongside his other footballing exploits the goalkeeper said: "I think it would be a massive achievement for sure, if you were able to put Bayern out of the Champions League, that would certainly be up there.

"It's going to be difficult, but like you said, I have been a part of teams that have done things against the odds, so why not?"

"What has to go right? Pretty much everything. You have to leave everything out there. You're coming up against one of the best teams in the world, but that's not to say that it's not just 11 v 11."

  6. Jota fit to start for Celticpublished at 15:05 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February

    Bayern Munich v Celtic (2-1) (20:00 GMT)

What will help Celtic against Bayern Munich is that they have a full squad available, with manager Brendan Rodgers saying Jota is fit enough to start and that deploying fellow winger Maeda in a central role is "certainly something we have talked about".

He added: "We design a plan for the game, knowing whatever team starts will need players coming off the side. It's such a demanding level, physically."

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

Scott McGrory from the HomeBhoys podcast, speaking on BBC 5 Live Breakfast: "I am nervous. We've given ourselves a fighting chance. I don't know the size of that chance but we are in it.

"I would start Jota as we could certainly lose the game in the first 20 minutes.

"It would absolutely not be a disaster if we lost, getting Bayern Munich or Real Madrid was the closest thing in terms of disaster. Celtic have been really good in Europe this year, if they got one more result then they maybe could have got an easier game.

"A win would be one of Celtic's greatest results."

I think everything is in Bayern's favour. They're at home, they've got a goal advantage and they are essentially a better team at this stage. All of these things are strongly in their favour. Big big crowd turning out tonight. But you never know.

Celtic getting that goal back actually does put a slightly different perspective on the game. If they could get the first goal it might mean something and it might actually put Bayern on the back foot. But everything points to a Bayern victory.

Bayern Munich star Harry Kane sat out training on Monday but head coach Vincent Kompany said the striker's facial injury is "nothing too bad".

The England captain, who has 29 goals for the season, took a knock in Saturday's goalless draw at Bayer Leverkusen, although he lasted the whole match.

"It's nothing really serious but we have not had much time to recover," explained Kompany. "Tomorrow morning we will see how he feels but I think it's nothing too bad."

Joao Palhinha and Alphonso Davies missed the first leg and neither are expected to return in time for the hosts, but central defender Kim Min-jae is likely to be back after playing at the weekend.

Back in 2013, Michael Oliver awarded Anthony Knockaert what should never have been a penalty in *that* Championship play-off semi-final second leg at Vicarage Road. While I should be asking for an apology, I actually ought to thank him for what followed from Knockaert’s double miss; you all know what I’m talking about.

Rodgers urges Celtic to 'give absolutely everything' in Munich

Brendan Rodgers wants Celtic to come away from their Champions League play-off against Bayern Munich with no regrets.

The Celtic manager accepts it will take a performance of the highest quality to successfully overturn a 2-1 deficit, but stresses that it is a challenge he and his players "want to embrace".

"There's no second chance," said Rodgers. "We've got to be clever, bright and brave and if we can do that, history has shown that in sport anything can happen.

"You come to this level and you have to play without any fear. There's worse things in life than losing a game of football so we want to ensure when we come in after the game, if we don't go through, we've given it absolutely everything."

The best ground in the Premier League - Everton fans react to new stadium

Everton's new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock opened its doors for the first time to 10,000 lucky Toffees fans successful in a ballot for an under-18s friendly against Wigan on Monday.

But following reports of issues around travel and crowding in some areas, a Liverpool City Region Combined Authority spokesperson said the purpose of the test event was to "identify improvements and adjustments that can be made to ensure matchdays and large events progress smoothly and safely".

"These test events will be subject to a comprehensive review with all organisations and partners involved," the statement added.

"The queuing system in place at Sandhills station is modelled on the tried-and-tested arrangements used for major events such as the Grand National in Aintree.

"We'll be taking on board comments from people who attended the event to see whether immediate steps can be taken to address specific concerns raised."

On future changes, the statement added: "Over the coming months the space will continue to be developed to become a welcoming and vibrant fan zone, with plans for new toilets, a fixed stage, food and refreshment areas and digital screens to enhance the visitor experience.

"We'll continue working closely with partners at Merseyrail, Liverpool City Council and Everton FC and will keep fans fully updated as the work to deliver these facilities progresses."

  19. Team news - Kamara out; late decision on Bailey, Konsa & Cashpublished at 14:28 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February

Aston Villa v Liverpool (Wed, 19.30 GMT)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery gave an update on the club's lengthy injury list, confirming that midfielder Boubacar Kamara is out, while he will make a late decision on Wednesday morning about whether to include forward Leon Bailey and defenders Ezri Konsa and Matty Cash in his squad.

Emery explained further about Kamara's injury problem: "He was ready to play with some problem in his back, but the injury was not coming from his back, it’s his hamstring. He is trying to analyse and meet with the doctors and physios a lot and how we can get better. Exactly why, it’s difficult."

On Tyrone Mings' return from injury: "Mings is a very important player, his comeback has been very good and he's performing very well. He had a small stop in his recovery but he played on Saturday and tomorrow we will need him available. He is a very important player because he is one of the captains and a leader in the defence."
