Eastleigh's game with Scunthorpe was deep in stoppage time when it was abandoned

Eastleigh and Scunthorpe's National League match was abandoned in stoppage time after a player from each side was injured in a clash of heads.

With the game level at 1-1, the collision between Eastleigh's Archie Harris and Scunthorpe's Jean Belehouan in added time required medical treatment on the pitch.

Flags were used to shroud the players while they were treated by paramedics.

Players from both teams were sent to the changing rooms by the referee before the game was abandoned.

Scunthorpe manager Andy Butler told BBC Radio Humberside that Harris was knocked unconscious in the collision and received oxygen on the pitch.

Butler added that the 20-year-old defender had since regained consciousness and was smiling.

Eastleigh said Harris had been admitted to hospital but was conscious and talking.

Following treatment, Scunthorpe said defender Belehouan, who sat up before being transferred to a wheelchair and taken from the field of play, had returned to the dressing room and appeared "to be responding well to testing" as further checks continued.

Butler said Belehouan had not lost consciousness but had a "slightly numb face" and was in a "bit of shock from the impact" but "seemed OK".

"Football and results are nothing compared to the players' safety so we wish Archie Harris all the best and we hope he makes a full and speedy recovery," added Butler.

"He's had the best possible care, he's had the ambulance people and three people around him."

Scunthorpe had taken the lead through Declan Howe in the 83rd minute when he tapped a rebounded effort underneath Nick Townsend.

Eastleigh equalised in the first minute of stoppage time when Harvey Saunders bundled home from Paul McCallum's header across goal.
