Jordan Henderson will join a Brentford side who are preparing for their first Premier League campaign under new head coach Keith Andrews.

And the England midfielder told the club's website that it was "an easy decision" to make, having spoken to Andrews, who replaced Thomas Frank last month.

“When I spoke to Keith a few times, he was very good and very honest, and he’s excited to get started as well," Henderson said.

“He was another big reason why I wanted to come and try to help the club keep moving forward.

“I’ve always had huge admiration for the club and what they’ve achieved over the last few years, in particular, how they’ve grown as a club.

“I’ve been told how organised and well-run the club is, it’s very family-oriented, which I think is very important."

At the Bees, Henderson will join former Liverpool players Caoimhin Kelleher, Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho.

Great signing if we can make it happen. Isak needs competition and we need strength in depth for the coming season. Osula is getting better and full of promise but isn't quite there yet. Elanga joining is exciting too. Still need CB and GK areas improving as well, but pleased to see us making moves after a dormant few transfer windows.

  3. Henderson makes Premier League return after two yearspublished at 09:42 British Summer Time 15 July

Jordan Henderson after Brentford signingImage source, Brentford FC

Almost two years after leaving Liverpool for Saudi Arabia, Jordan Henderson is back in the Premier League with Brentford.

Henderson joined Al-Ettifaq for £12m and was managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard there, before moving to Ajax at the start of last season after less than six months in the Saudi Pro League.

During his 12 years at Anfield, Henderson won the Premier League - the club's first league title in 30 years - Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, Club World Cup, Uefa Super Cup and Community Shield.

He made more than 50 appearances for Ajax but exited the club having narrowly missed out on the league title, with PSV Eindhoven crowned champions on the final day of last season.

Henderson was left out of Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad, as he had not played for England since 2023.

After Tuchel's appointment as England head coach in January, Henderson has featured in both of his squads, making three appearances under the German.

  6. When Ekitike gave Tottenham a scarepublished at 09:32 British Summer Time 15 July

Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt celebratesImage source, Getty Images

Hugo Ekitike has had Premier League clubs hovering around him for his signature this summer after a superb campaign in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Premier League clubs Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea were all interested in the France Under-21 striker but it looks like Newcastle United are moving to the front of the queue.

English fans got a taste of the attacker's potential in April this year when his brilliant finish from outside the penalty area gave Frankfurt an early lead at Tottenham in a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final.

Ekitike almost knocked the eventual Europa League winners out of the competition in the return leg when he was sent through on goal only to be denied by Micky van de Ven with a last-ditch tackle.

Those displays followed another impressive outing in Frankfurt against Ajax in the last 16 where he scored and provided an assist in a 4-1 win against Ajax in the second leg.

In total, he scored four goals during the club's run in Europe last season, along with three assists from 12 games.

If the Toon can land Ekitike for closer to £60m-£65m, that's great business. He's versatile across the front three. Regardless, Newcastle need a right-footed centre-back. The goalkeeper position looks likely to be filled soon, but adding a CB is crucial, in my opinion. Attack wins games, defence wins trophies.

  8. Newcastle's record signingspublished at 09:18 British Summer Time 15 July

Alexander Isak poses for photos after signing for NewcastleImage source, Getty Images

There is an expectation that Eintracht Frankfurt will look to push the final fee for Hugo Ekitike above the £70m mark.

That would comfortably make the France Under-21 striker Newcastle United's most expensive ever signing.

Sweden striker Alexander Isak currently holds that honour after arriving from Real Sociedad in 2022 for £63m.

Sandro Tonali is second in the list, having become the most expensive Italian of all time when he signed from AC Milan in 2023 for £55m - an amount that the Magpies matched to sign Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest last week.

Anthony Gordon, who arrived from Everton for £45m, and captain Bruno Guimaraes, who joined for £40m, are fourth and fifth among Newcastle's record buys.

Here's a look at Newcastle's most expensive signings...

    • Alexander Isak - £63m
    • Anthony Elanga - £55m
    • Sandro Tonali - £55m
    • Anthony Gordon - £45m
    • Bruno Guimaraes - £40m
    • Joelinton - £40m
  9. Newcastle working on a fee for Ekitike 'in region of 75m euros'published at 09:07 British Summer Time 15 July

He’s [Hugo Ekitike] a long-term target. In the summer of 2022 they [Newcastle] gave it a go a but it didn’t come to fruition. They are trying once more.

They’re working on a fee in the region of 75m euros [£65.2m]. Frankfurt are thought to want more than that. At this point in time, there’s nothing agreed.

Eddie Howe’s men do want to bring him to St James’ Park. If they do, in their mind they want him to play with Alexander Isak.

What you want and what happens is not always the case. There are clubs who really want to sign Alexander Isak, Liverpool prominently and Arsenal previously.

Newcastle have no intention of selling him. They have him on a contract until the summer of 2028. They would love to renew his deal and they pay him very well already.

The noise continues from the outside world and maybe that’s something Newcastle will have to consider. They’re in a better financial situation [than last summer when they struggled to meet Profit and Sustainability Rules] and their ambition is high.

  11. Hot property Ekitike still a relatively unknown quantitypublished at 08:57 British Summer Time 15 July

Hugo Ekitike celebrates scoring to FrankfurtImage source, Getty Images

Hugo Ekitike is one of the hottest strikers in the top five European leagues, but is still relatively inexperienced.

The 23-year-old Frenchman enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Eintracht Frankfurt last season, scoring 15 goals and weighing in with eight assists to help them finish third in the Bundesliga and reach the quarter-final of the Europa League, where they lost to eventual winners Tottenham.

He only joined the club last summer after an initial loan spell from Paris St-Germain and is under contract for another four years.

Ekitike has scored 26 goals and added 14 assists in 64 appearances during his time at Frankfurt, having scored four in 33 games for PSG.

He is yet to make his senior debut for the France national side but has scored five goals in five games for the Under-21s.

  12. Newcastle squad light on competition for Isakpublished at 08:49 British Summer Time 15 July

    Alexander IsakImage source, Getty Images

Alexander Isak scored 27 goals in all competitions last season for the Magpies.

No other Newcastle player made it into double figures.

Anthony Gordon, Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes, who predominantly play in wide positions, registered nine goals each.

Isak had very little competition for the central attacking berth, with main deputy Callum Wilson failing to score a single Premier League goal in a season interrupted by injuries.

Wilson this month left the club following the end of his contract.

There will be extra pressure on both Isak and manager Eddie Howe this season, as they juggle the club's return to the Champions League with domestic competitions.

Newcastle did not compete in Europe last season after failing to qualify in the 2023-24 campaign, when their league form was affected by injuries as a thin squad was exposed by Champions League football.

  13. Newcastle explore record deal for Frankfurt's Ekitikepublished at 08:37 British Summer Time 15 July

Hugo Ekitike celebrates scoring a goal for Eintracht FrankfurtImage source, Getty Images

Right, let's start on that line coming out of Newcastle.

Eddie Howe's squad was last week boosted by the £55m signing of Sweden winger Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest.

BBC Sport's senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel reported on Monday that the club is now exploring a potential deal to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, who would "probably cost more than £70m".

The 23-year-old France forward scored 15 goals and had eight assists last season as his side finished third in the Bundesliga.

Despite the interest in Ekitike, BBC Sport has been told Newcastle have no interest in selling last season's top scorer Alexander Isak, who has been linked with clubs across Europe including Liverpool.

Sweden striker Isak, 25, joined from Real Sociedad in 2022 for £63m, which makes him currently the club's record purchase.
