Ruud van Nistelrooy has already shown he is no respecter of technical area protocol.

Manchester United's interim manager took a good couple of strides into Steve Cooper's zone to offer instruction, then nearly walked past the Leicester boss before being guided back by fourth official Michael Salisbury.

I think he is quite keen to win this game.

One of the things Erik ten Hag struggled with at Old Trafford without doubt was being there for such an amount of time without anyone knowing what his tactics or strategy were. How were they trying to win games? It was all very bitty.

He won two trophies but to finish where they did in the league last season to where they are now this season is not good enough at all for a club that size or with the money they pent.

  3. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October

Huge chance for Newcastle to take the lead early on. Alexander Isak swings in a cross from the right which Joelinton pokes off the post from six yards out.

United interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy got a good reception from the home fans as he came out earlier.

Dressed smart with those trainers that football pundits seem to wear.

    Brighton 0-0 Liverpool

Brighton are just starting to come into the game at the Amex. They're hemming Liverpool in at the moment and making it difficult for them to get out.

They do eventually break free of the Seagulls' defence and Curtis Jones quickly plays it forward. Cody Gakpo fizzes across the penalty box but it's just beyond Luis Diaz.

Funny how everyone was laughing at Chelsea for having so many players because it could never work, but now it's unfair because it is

Ooooh. It's been all Liverpool so far but Brighton have a really good opportunity to go ahead.

Jean Paul van Hecke's ball finds Simon Adingra out on the left. He squares across for Tariq Lamptey but his effort is struck straight at Vitezslav Jaros.

Liverpool get straight back up the other end but Cody Gakpo's effort is denied.

Ultimately Manchester United want to get back to where they haven't realistically been since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson; challenging on a consistent basis and being back in the top four.

Erik ten Hag had success in the domestic cups but they want to be back challenging for the title on a regular basis. Ruben Amorim can have personality and ideas but he will be judged on whether he can get three points on the board regularly enough.

He will need all that charisma because going into Old Trafford you will have to deal with expectations from day one.

  11. 'We have gone as strong as we can'published at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October

    Newcastle v Chelsea (19:45 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to Sky Sports: "We feel it's a strong team and we welcome back Anthony Gordon which is great news.

"It is difficult to play three games in a row. This is an opportunity for some players to grab and show us how good they are. We have gone as strong as we can.

"It's a massive game for us."

Connor Bradley has got himself far up the pitch on a couple of occasions. He makes a really good run from the full-back position and ends up as Liverpool's highest player but can't get on the end of the ball.

    Alan Shearer

For Ruud van Nistelrooy to step out tonight as manager of Manchester United, after what he did for the club as a player, is a huge honour.

From a personal point of view he will want to win tonight and will be desperate to go out and get the team to put in a good performance. He will want the side to make a good start, get an early goal and go on and get a few more.

  20. 'The most important thing is passion and energy'published at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October

Man Utd v Leicester (19:45 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy told Sky Sports: "It's mixed feelings. Sad to see Erik go. He was the one who got me here. Our first conversation was about his passion for Man Utd. He did everything for this club.

"I'm asked to help the club. That's the reason I'm here, to help, to build. That's where I take pride in leading the team today.

"Hectic day especially yesterday. Coming in for the first time after Erik was gone. We are to stabilise and go out for training and get to work. The team talk was about the opponent and ourselves, what it is about to play at Old Trafford in front of these wonderful fans.

"Hopefully lots of possession and attacks. That's what Man Utd is about. I've tried to share that with the players."

On the team he picked: "It has to do with the squad we have. We're thin at the moment. We have injury problems.

"The most important thing is passion and energy and get the crowd going and give them a great night of football. It's a big day."
