  3. 'We are in a difficult position'published at 22:58 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October

    FT: Tottenham 2-1 Man City

    Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports: "Exceptional. The young players did well.

"An incredible top side they are so fast and I am really pleased.

"We play so good. If you play a game that quick they attack quicker, we played really good. Of course, in the second half there was transitions they could have finished the game - I know perfectly how good we played.

"Football sometimes, we are in a difficult position with the amount of players."

On injuries: "It is what it is. It is normal. The limit of the players is there."

"We will see tomorrow [on Savinho's injury].

"Jack Grealish and Kyle Walker, no chance to play the next games."

On not playing Erling Haaland: "The plan was not to play today. We have not had much recovery and it was a waste of energy."

Manchester United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "To go back to yesterday, of course receiving the players and getting together for the first day after Erik [ten Hag] had to leave was a sad day to share. Mixed emotions. "He was the one that asked me to work back here again, and in the first conversation we had I felt such a passion and care for this football club. That is why I was so sad to see him go.

"Having said that football and life continues and we knew that 75,000 people would be waiting for us here today, with millions more watching at home behind their screens and radios and you have to switch then as players.

"We tried to switch that button for the players, try to get the mindset going and go out tonight and give everything for the fans."

On if he can raise standards for the team: "It is clear that this is going to be short term, so for me today was the most important day after what happened. In such short notice we had to have things getting going and get into the quarter-finals. Credit to the players, they were fantastic today.

"For now the focus is on Chelsea on Sunday and I do not really look any further."

  5. 'Tonight was about seeing the next batch come through for Man City'published at 22:56 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October

    Leon Osman
Former Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

For the majority of the second half Pep Guardiola sat on the bench with a smile on his face, he looked like he was enjoying what he was seeing.

He was enjoying seeing the development of the next batch of academy players; James McAtee played, Nico O'Reilly played and could have scored at the very end, Jacob Wright came on and performed to a high standard.

Tonight was about seeing the next batch come through for Man City, as they look to win everything else possible.

    FT: Tottenham 2-1 Man City

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, speaking to Sky Sports: "It's a cup tie played against a formidable opponent, I thought we did well for the most part.

"We didn't allow too many clear-cut chances. We could have put the game away, but City are always going to push you.

"It's an ever-evolving process, this team is growing all the time, but when you have growth you are going to stumble.

"As disappointed as we were on Sunday I had great belief we could come out today and put up a great show.

"Both our goals were quality goals, they have to be as City don't give easy chances."

On Timo Werner: "Great for Timo. He is going through a tough time, but the build-up play was great.

"It should lift him, we are supporting him, but it is down to him and his approach to things. He was unlucky to not get one or two more, if attacking players don't score they feel anxiety a bit."

On the team's morale: "I don't believe in big moments or catastrophic moments - we are the same team that we were three days ago. Hopefully, we have more good days ahead of us."

  8. 'Couldn't ask for more'published at 22:49 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October

    FT: Man Utd 5-2 Leicester

    Manchester United

Man Utd interim boss Ruud Van Nistelrooy on MUTV:

"Couldn’t ask for more. I was delighted for Casemiro, the way he has been training and helping the team, such an example, we are delighted to have him around.

"He was almost blamed for the Liverpool game. It is not fair, totally not true. He is an example for us. Part of my celebrations were for him.

"I wasn’t worried about Bruno [Fernandes]. I see him every day in training. I see how he prepares and is helping the team. He puts a lot on his shoulders. He is responsible for everything in the club. Today he was free. I told him to play well and enjoy it. Hopefully more to come."

  9. 'Delighted with the contribution from the whole squad'published at 22:46 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October

    FT: Newcastle 2-0 Chelsea

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United Head Coach Eddie Howe looks onImage source, Getty Images

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Really good performance tonight, especially in the first half. We got our pressing attitude bang on and got a lot of regains high up the pitch, which is where the first goal came from. Delighted with the contribution from the whole squad."

On learning from Sunday's match v Chelsea: "You always learn from every game and try to put things into practice in the next match. Playing the same opponent yes, but a very different team, I'm sure they also took things from Sunday for tonight.

"I just felt there was a better feel in our out of possession delivery tonight. We were much better on the details and turning the regains into chances going forwards.

"Second half it wasn't an easy game to manage. They were bringing on some good players from the bench to add to the quality they already had on the pitch but I thought we defended really well."

On making changes with a quick turnaround: "You have the game on the horizon, so that is what you are looking at. Two days to recover before another one, so we will have to wait and find out if we managed it well.

"We also wanted to look after one or two players who we thought needed protection, some players deserved to play and stake their claim for more regular time and they did their chances no harm."

On the draw: "Copy and paste in terms of what I say each time. I want a home draw because this place is an amazing venue to play in and that was shown again tonight. Sold out, great atmosphere, good performance and I hope everyone feels a bit better about themselves now."

You look at the list of quarter-finalists left in this competition; Mikel Arteta needs a trophy, Arne Slot would love a trophy in his first season, Eddie Howe really wants to bring a trophy to Newcastle. And Ruben Amorim, if he comes in, would want a trophy. Ange Postecoglou will be looking at this trophy too.

Last eight of a major competition, three wins from Wembley. This trophy is massive for whoever wins it this season.

  17. 'Still plenty of work to do but win will boost morale'published at 22:36 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October

    FT: Man Utd 5-2 Leicester

    Mark Ogden
Senior writer for ESPN on BBC Radio 5 Live

Tonight was a little bit of an illusion in the fact that the type of chances that they created at the weekend they scored tonight, but I don’t think we can say that United have suddenly turned a corner.

There is still plenty of work for Ruud van Nistelrooy or Ruben Amorim to get through, but a win is a win and it will boost the morale and confidence in the group.

  18. 'Had some luck as well'published at 22:35 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October

    FT: Man Utd 5-2 Leicester

    Manchester United

Man Utd interim boss Ruud Van Nistelrooy talking to Sy Sports: "I have to say we had some luck as well, I am so happy for Casemiro though and [Alejandro] Garnacho and Bruno [Fernandes]. Five goals but the chances against West Ham and Fenerbahce, we created so much and couldn't finish., All of a sudden we had some luck on our side and that made it a great night.

"It is always the target to react and attack. The reaction of players after the Leicester goals were excellent and they deserve the credit. I am glad the crowd go home happy."

On his future at Man Utd: "I am here to help, to serve and give my everything for the club. That will never change."

  19. 'Van Nistelrooy looked the part'published at 22:32 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October

    FT: Man Utd 5-2 Leicester

Ruud van Nistelrooy has reminded us all who he is and I would imagine that the next time that a job comes up in the Premier League or Championship he would be high on the list.

When he walked out of the tunnel at the start of the game, he looked the part. At times Erik ten Hag didn't look the part.

If you are in a dressing room and Van Nistelrooy is giving you instructions you sit up and take notice, and at times with Ten Hag didn't look like a credible personality that could convince.

The package with Ten Hag didn't really work and at least Van Nistelrooy has the appearance and the presence.
