Hibernian suffered Champions League heartbreak as Denmark's Fortuna Hjorring struck late to deny them a continued route to progression in Europe's elite competition.

Nikoline Nielsen's injury-time winner directly from a corner ended Hibs' hopes of facing Young Boys for a place in the competition proper.

They now face a third-place play-off in their Champions League qualifying tournament path against hosts Apollon Ladies for a place in the inaugural Europa Cup.

Inside seven minutes, both sides had missed penalties, with Kathleen McGovern's effort well-saved and Hjorring's Omewa Ogochukwu blasting over the bar.

Neither goalkeeper was tested as the first half drew to a close, and Hibsthen went ahead through Rachael Boyle as the second half got under way.

Ogochukwu levelled for the hosts, atoning for the spot-kick miss, before Nielsen sunk Hibs' hearts late in stoppage time.
