For the UK men Palmer was way too high and Kane and McTominay too low

  4. 'It has been a year with an exceptionally high level'published at 22:22 BST 22 September

    Ballon d'Or

Aitana Bonmati speaking on stage after clinching her third consecutive Ballon d'Or: "My third time in a row here, and I still can't believe it. Incredible. Thank you to France Football for this, for the third time, it really could have gone to anyone. If it was possible to share it, I would, because I think it has been a year with an exceptionally high level, above all among my teammates, who had a great year.

"Also to receive it from the hands of Andres Iniesta, one of my idols since I was little, alongside Xavi. I learned my football from them, to this day I thank them for all that they have taught me. Thank you to them for everything that they have done in football.

"Also thank you to the organisation, for improving things year on year. This year we have the same awards as the men, which I welcome, that is what we have worked towards for a long time.

"To my club Barcelona, the president, the board, the staff and my teammates. For awards like this, we don't achieve them along. It's thanks to the collective work of the team. I owe Barcelona everything, this is the club of my life. I hope to represent this badge for many more years."

Aitana Bonmati, three time winner, what does an English footballer have to do to prove themselves worthy of a Ballon d’Or. Don’t get me wrong Bonmati doesn’t not deserve the award but I don’t get how Russo, club of the year and two-time European champion is not good enough. Same with Kane and Bronze, they always get a sniff at the award but their achievements apparently are not adequate enough for a Ballon d’Or.

Velk: Yamal will win it one day, but he didn't deserve to be in top two.

  8. 'Donnarumma on another planet'published at 22:14 BST 22 September

    Julien Laurens
European football expert on BBC Ballon d'Or reaction show

After the mistake against Liverpool in the last 16 of the Champions League last season, Donnarumma was just on another planet really.

The second leg against Liverpool, the two games against Aston Villa, the two games against Arsenal. Without him PSG don't get to the final and win it. A well deserved award.

By the way, Gianluigi Donnarumma finished in ninth position for the main prize.

Bonmati may be the best women's player, but she wasn't the best player last season. No UWCL, no Euros, missed a pen in the final. Caldentey and Russo both won the UWCL, plus Russo won the Euros, scored in the final & was WSL golden boot. Poor decision.

  12. 'Dembele owes award to team-mates'published at 22:07 BST 22 September

    Julien Laurens
European football expert on BBC Ballon d'Or reaction show

Dembele owes this Ballon d'Or to his team as well. It is a reflection of the incredible collective work last season, together they created something very, very special with Luis Enrique.

He performed so well because behind him and alongside him he had this incredible team that attacked together, defended together and that made a difference in the way he could express himself.

Level heads prevail. Ousmane Dembele was objectively the only real choice for the award this year. His team achievements and personal performances were just not comparable to anyone else. Yamal didn't do enough. Salah and Raphinha should have been higher but overall, the right player won today.

How has Alessia Russo not won? Arsenal won the Champions League and England won the Euros after she scored in the final. Speechless

    Tom, West Sussex

I don’t know what an English player has to do to win Russo should have won, Euro and Champions League winner beating Bonmati in the process. Kane never gets a look in but consistently scoring. Seems they don’t play for the right team to win.
