By the way, PSG are losing 1-0 at half-time to Marseille.

But will Dembele be a winner tonight?

  8. Why are PSG not at Ballon d'Or?published at 19:54 BST

Ousmane Dembele is injured and is at tonight's ceremony - but many of his Paris St-Germain team-mate are not.

That's because PSG are playing a rescheduled match at Marseille at the same time as the awards do.

Nominees Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Nuno Mendes, Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha will not be attending as they have been named in PSG's unchanged squad for the 'Le Classique'.

Should only be two in contention, Salah and Dembele. Unfortunately for Mo, he was incredible in the first half of the season, and ok (by his standards) in the second half. Dembele was poor first half of the season, but the incredible second half is fresh in the memory.

  11. 'I'd love Russo to win'published at 19:48 BST

    Ellen White
England Euro 2022 winner on BBC Women's Football Weekly

I'd love Alessia Russo to win [the Ballon d'Or]. A Champions League winner, she won the Euros and scored that goal in the final. She was in the team of the tournament as well so I would love her to win.

I think it is between [Mariona] Caldentey, [Aitana] Bonmati, [Alexia] Putellas, maybe even Chloe Kelly for what she did, winning the Champions League but I am not 100%.

"It could be Bonmati, she won the Treble, was player of the tournament at the Euros, got to the final.

"Caldentey would be nice though, she's had a great season, won player of the season in the WSL awards, got to the final with Spain and won the Champions League."

I'm going Yamal. He's so, so good, especially for an 18 year old. If not, then the Kopa Award is his.

  13. Will Yamal become youngest ever winner?published at 19:44 BST

Barcelona's Lamine Yamal, who has rocked up with his family, is one of the favourites to win the main men's prize.

Ronaldo, the former Brazil striker, at 21 years and three months currently holds the title of youngest ever winner.

    Yamal is still 18-years-old.

It would be a shame if Salah doesn’t win it in his career and his stats last season not only beat everyone else nominated but topped his incredible first season at Liverpool.

The days of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo dominating the men's award are over. The brilliant duo won the prize 13 times between them between 2008 and 2023. No one has won it more times than Messi (eight). Messi, 38, is now at Inter Miami while Ronaldo, 40, is playing in Saudi Arabia for Al-Nassr. Neither player made this year's 30-name shortlist.

Tonight should be Alessia Russo's night, 7 goals in the Champions League, Champions League winner, joint top scorer in the WSL, scored in the Euros Final, Euros winner. Satisfies all the criteria.
