There were clearly a number of Celtic fans celebrating in the home end.
Brilliant Benfica shut out Juve to reach play-offs
Benfica confirmed their place in the knockout play-off round of the Champions League with a convincing win against Juventus in Turin.
The result means the Portuguese side finished 16th in the 36-team league phase, while Juventus, who ended in 20th place, will also have to negotiate a two-legged tie to secure a spot in the last 16 of the competition.
Greek forward Vangelis Pavlidis set the visitors on their way with a 16th-minute opener, placing the ball past home goalkeeper Mattia Perin from close range after collecting Alexander Bah's pass.
Turkey midfielder Orkun Kokcu put the game beyond the hosts late on, with a low drive into the left corner after being teed up by the impressive Pavlidis.
It was no more than Bruno Lage's side deserved, with the visitors squandering several excellent opportunities to record an even more handsome victory.
Benfica have now won won all five of their meetings against Italian sides in the European Cup or Champions League.
All the teams finishing ninth to 24th in the league phase of the Champions League go into the play-offs. Benfica will face Monaco or Brest, while Juventus will play AC Milan or PSV Eindhoven, with the matches to be played on 11-12 and 18-19 February.

Juventus have lost six of their eight previous meetings with Benfica in European competition (W1 D1), only losing more times in such competitions to Real Madrid (10).
Benfica have won all four of their games against Juventus in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League with PSG (2/2) and VfB Stuttgart (1/1) the only other teams to win 100% of their meetings with the Old Lady in the competition.
Juventus won their last home game in the UEFA Champions League, beating Manchester City 2-0 in December. They last won and kept a clean sheet in consecutive home matches in the competition in the 2018-19 campaign, in wins over Valencia (1-0) and Atlético de Madrid (3-0).
Benfica have won three of their last four UEFA Champions League away games, despite conceding in each (3-1 v RB Salzburg, 2-1 v Crvena zvezda and 3-2 v Monaco). This is as many victories as they managed across the previous 21 away matches in which they had failed to keep a clean sheet in the competition (3).
Benfica have netted 14 goals in their seven matches in the UEFA Champions League, making this only the second campaign in which they’ve averaged 2+ goals per game in a single edition (also 2022-23 – 2.6 per game). However, in their last match against Barcelona, they became just the second side to score 4+ times and lose in the Champions League (4-5 defeat), along with Legia Warsaw v Borussia Dortmund in 2016-17 (4-8 defeat).
Juventus haven’t conceded a goal in any of their last three games in the UEFA Champions League. The last time they kept four in a row in the competition was in the 2016-17 campaign, when they finished as runners-up under Massimiliano Allegri (six in a row).
Benfica have had the joint-most fast break attacks in the UEFA Champions League this season (19, level with Liverpool). Six of those came against Barcelona last time out; their most in a game this term.
Dusan Vlahovic has scored four goals in six games for Juventus in the UEFA Champions League this season, already twice as many as he netted across his first two campaigns in this competition combined (one goal in 2021-22 and 2022-23). He netted the opener in Juve’s last home games in the Champions League, in a 2-0 win over Manchester City.
Benfica striker Vangelis Pavlidis scored a hat-trick against Barcelona last time out in the UEFA Champions League; the first of his career in a major European competition. However, following Benfica’s eventual defeat, he became just the fifth player in Champions League history to score a hat-trick and end on the losing side.
Manuel Locatelli made 27 line-breaking passes in Juventus’s previous game against Club Brugge; the most by a midfielder in a UEFA Champions League match this season.
