  1. How does Kudus compare to Chelsea wingers?published at 14:23 British Summer Time 6 June

Noni Madueke scored the most goals for Chelsea from the wings last season with seven goals and four assists from 33 Premier League appearances.

Pedro Neto meanwhile had four goals, and was only Chelsea's sixth-highest goalscorer during the season behind Cole Palmer (15), Nicolas Jackson (10), Madueke (7), Enzo Fernandez (6) and Marc Cucurella (5).

Jadon Sancho, who was on loan from Manchester United and has since returned to Old Trafford, had three goals and four assists during the league campaign.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus, who played in a variety of positions in attack for West Ham last season, had five goals and three assists from 32 games.

Chelsea also have Tyrique George in their ranks while 18-year-old Brazil international Estevao Willian will also complete his move to the Blues this summer .

Mohammed Kudus can add more attacking threat to Chelsea now that Jadon Sancho is confirmed to go back to Manchester United after the end of his loan spell.

Kudus is a very versatile attacker like Chelsea duo Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke, as he can play down both flanks and come inside into the middle.

He fits Blues manager Enzo Maresca’s 4-2-3-1 system as well as he is the type of winger he likes.

But he can also add an aggressive high-press style. His approach to close down the man on the ball is exceptional. He is rapid, intense and effective with it.

Kudus can also add goals into the Chelsea squad. His work rate off the ball is very good too.

He may need to improve his decision making when on the ball. At times, a pass-and-go can be more effective than trying to beat your man one-on-one.

Overall, he can add goals to this Chelsea side, has great work rate off the ball, and can contribute to the winning mentality that the Blues have got back in to after their Conference League success.

We are joined by former West Ham first-team coach Edu Rubio today.

And what better person than Edu, who worked with Mohammed Kudus at West Ham, to throw some light on the qualities of the in-demand Ghanaian forward.

Edu, a Uefa Pro License holder, has worked as a first-team coach at both Wolves and West Ham.

Mohammed Kudus arrived in England from Ajax in 2023 after helping the Dutch club win two league titles and the KNVB Cup during his three years in Amsterdam.

The Ghanaian continued his impressive form in England, scoring eight goals and creating nine assists in his first Premier League campaign with West Ham.

He was also instrumental in the Hammers' run to the quarter-finals of the Europa League that season - bagging five goals, including a double against Freiburg in the last-16 second leg.

However, his output has decreased in his second season as he scored just five goals and created three assists in 32 appearances during the recently concluded campaign.

Kudus, who can play across the forward line and also as an attacking midfielder, also has 12 goals in 42 appearances for the Ghana national team.

The Ghana international has a release clause of £85m and BBC Sport has already reported interest from Chelsea for the 24-year-old.

We have also been told that at least one other Premier League side and several overseas clubs are monitoring his situation.

It is rare for a summer transfer window to be so busy, so early, David, but this is not a normal summer.

For those unaware, a short early window - from 1-10 June - has been introduced to help teams prepare for the Club World Cup, which starts in the United States on 14 June.

Only, the window is not limited to participants of that new extended tournament - it is providing every Premier League side with the opportunity to bolster their ranks early doors.

Only two Premier League sides - Chelsea and Manchester City - have qualified for the revamped Club World Cup and will battle it out with 30 rivals from across Fifa's six confederations in the United States.

The duo will need to finalise their Club World Cup squads on 10 June before their trip across the Atlantic - making this mini transfer window much more significant for those two sides.

What other big names are involved?

Uefa has been assigned 12 slots at the Club World Cup, with Paris St-Germain, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan among those involved.

Is anyone else not a fan of this transfer window? As an Arsenal fan I keep alternating between being annoyed we haven’t signed anyone, and remembering that the main window is still a month away.

Moving on from Manchester United to Liverpool, BBC Sport's Dan Roan has reported that the Premier League champions have rejected an approach from Barcelona to speak to forward Luis Diaz.

Club sources told BBC Sport that Colombia international Diaz, one of Liverpool's key players in winning the league title last season, is not for sale.

The 28-year-old joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 and has a contract with the club until 2027.

He scored 13 goals and made seven assists in the league as Liverpool won the title by 10 points.

Diaz attracted interest from Manchester City last summer and also has admirers in Saudi Arabia.

  9. Should Gyokeres be Man Utd's number one transfer target?published at 13:40 British Summer Time 6 June

    Craig Nelson
    BBC Sport reporter

We have already heard from plenty of Manchester United fans in this page today eager to see further reinforcements to the squad.

Sporting striker Victor Gyokeres seems to be United supporters' top priority.

    What do you think?

  10. 'Reduction of costs creates space for Man Utd to invest in first team'published at 13:36 British Summer Time 6 June

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport chief football news reporter

The reduction in Manchester United's costs is significant because, as minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe previously pledged, it creates space to invest in the first team.

United sources say the figures prove "difficult decisions" around staffing are now starting to bear fruit and that wage reduction, plus other savings, allow for "disciplined investment" in Ruben Amorim's squad.

They say the club is committed to complying with the Premier League and Uefa's financial rules.

The club, who have missed out on European qualification for only the second time since English clubs returned following the Uefa ban in 1990, have already agreed a deal to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m. Negotiations with Brentford are also continuing over Cameroon forward Bryan Mbeumo.

After their worst domestic performance since the 1973-74 relegation season, United chief executive Omar Berrada is demanding immediate improvement.

"We had a difficult season in the Premier League, which we all know fell below our standards," he said. "We have a clear expectation of improvement next season."

  11. Postpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 6 June

    Craig Nelson
    BBC Sport reporter

Manchester United have now released their third-quarter financial statement, which Simon Stone mentioned.

It included a £20m reduction in wages compared to the same point in 2024, part of which is due to a redundancy programme that will eventually see around 450 staff members losing their jobs. That contributed to a small operating profit of £700,000, compared to a loss of £66.2m 12 months ago.

There was also a £2.7m "exceptional costs" payment, which the club say is related to the exits of some senior leaders.

Total revenue for the nine months to 31 March is £502.3m, down just over 3%.

Borrowings, excluding the amount owed in transfer fees, is £691m.

The young midfielder/forward I’d like to see at Old Trafford is Tyler Dibling. Really impressed me with his willingness and ability to run with the ball last season. Can’t believe he’s not been snapped up by someone yet, I reckon he’s a star in the making.

    Russ, Upton

I’d love City to sign Rayan Cherki from Lyon as quickly as possible, his performance generally and brilliant goal last night [in France's 5-4 defeat to Spain in the Nations League] must’ve added on another 10 million euros to Lyon’s asking price!

  13. Man Utd financial report due outpublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 6 June

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport chief football news reporter

The joint pursuit of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, plus more speculation around Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, raises a big question about Manchester United's finances.

Earlier this year, minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe said the club would have gone bust without the controversial cost-saving measures he has implemented.

The two situations don't quite balance, so it will be interesting to see if any clarity is offered within United's third quarter financial results, which are due out today.

  14. Gyokeres 'attracting clubs from across Europe'published at 13:22 British Summer Time 6 June

    Michael Emons
    BBC Sport reporter

Former Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres has been in fine form for Portuguese side Sporting this season, scoring an incredible 54 goals in 52 matches.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Manchester United, which would see him reunited with former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim, but his goalscoring record is attracting clubs from across Europe.

His contract reportedly has a release clause of 100m euros (£83.1m).

Although never seen linked, I’d like Villa to go for Gyokeres. Can play in multiple positions, prolific and also probably more cost effective than Rashford would’ve been.

    Chris

As a Man Utd fan, I am desperate for us to sign Gyokeres. He is a goalscoring machine and brings much-needed passion, power and aura, to a dismal attacking line-up. Also knows Amorim and his system, so it is key that Man Utd try to sign him.

    John

Still think United need a new striker, saw Gyokeres wants to re-unite with Amorim, that would be nice. Send Hoijlund out on loan - think given his age it’s only fair we give him a chance!

David Silva at Man City - a joy to watch.

    Chris, Tilbury

With all due respect to Keith, his view is one that is a myth and has held back football in the UK for generations. David Silva and Sergio Aguero were not giants but won multiple league titles. Two of the best players ever in world football are under 5ft 6ins, I guess in Keith’s mind, Maradona and Messi would have struggled on a cold night in Stoke! Bewildering.

    Anon

I'd like to defend Keith in Orlando. He didn't say Gomes was "too small" for the league, he said he goes against the current physicality norm in the Premier League, which is completely true. Lots of teams are adding height, strength and pace.

  18. Man Utd's Mbeumo discussions continuepublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 6 June

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport chief football news reporter

Prospective new Manchester United signing Matheus Cunha came on as a substitute in Brazil's World Cup qualifying draw in Ecuador last night.

Cunha will complete his move to United once his international commitments are over.

But that is just the start of what is anticipated to be a massive overhaul of Ruben Amorim's squad.

Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo is also keen to join United, who have made their first move for the Cameroon international, with a bid of £45m, with an additional £10m in further payments as part of the offer.

There is no deal yet, with Brentford clearly looking for more.

It would be interesting to see if that situation was complicated by any Tottenham move to bring in Thomas Frank, should Daniel Levy decide he is the man to replace Ange Postecoglou, who is obviously still in a job as we speak.
