So, there we are then, Walsall get the job done pretty comfortably in the end and are one game from the promotion many thought they had sewn-up in January!

It will be either AFC Wimbledon or Notts County they will face in the Wembley final on 26 May.

Chesterfield boss Paul Cook on their loss to Walsall, despite getting a goal back in stoppage time, he told Sky Sports:

"I'm devastated, absolutely devastated.

"I think the biggest thing of the night is that it is Walsall's night and you have got to respect that.

"The play-offs have been amazing entertainment and value and no different to tonight's game where both teams were so committed.

"We have done our best and when you come into a ground and you do your best, you can't ask for anything more.

"We wish Walsall and Mat Sadler and his players the best of luck going to Wembley."

Boss Mat Sadler has turned Walsall's season around again and has told Sky Sports:

"The substitutes added that extra bit of energy you need at the end but before that we played very, very well.

"We've got an unbelievable group of players and a real togetherness about the place - we've worked so hard to hold onto that togetherness.

"We want to enjoy the night - the lads need to relax now, take a couple of days off but come back on Monday firing.

"I'm a big believer in celebrating moments like this because they don't come around all the time but we know there's a job to be done."

Walsall

Charlie Lakin made the tie safe with a goal which made it 3-0 on aggregate after 81 minutes and has been speaking to Sky Sports:

"So late in the game to get that goal you just felt the relief.

"It's been a difficult two or three months but we've shown what we're about in the two games.

"It's a dream come true to play at Wembley so bring it on - we've got to take it in our stride - it's not often you get to play at Wembley."

Walsall

Walsall defender Harry Williams on their return to form following their drop from top spot into the play-offs, he told Sky Sports:

"It feels amazing, honestly.

"From three months ago when we went through this tricky patch, to get to where we are now has been brilliant.

"When you look at this now, it is a memory to cherish forever.

"We know we where so far ahead and we went through a tricky patch but the belief in the team has never dipped, we are together as a group and we always believe we can get back to where we wanted to be.

"We have put two great games in against Chesterfield, and hopefully we can go one step further"

The Walsall fans are going to enjoy this and the players are being engulfed by the fans.

The final moment of celebration was delayed but not denied for Walsall.

Jamille Matt is at the centre of these celebrations and is being swarmed by all the Walsall players.

Tommy Simkin is being carried high in the air - don't drop him you've only got 10 days to recover from anything.

Nathan Lowe remains Walsall's leading scorer but returned to his parent club Stoke in January - he has told Sky Sports:

"They deserve it - every single one of them worked so hard.

"They've been through so much they just deserve this."

Walsall fans are back on the pitch to celebrate with the players.

Chesterfield didn't bother lining up for the restart, they just stood in their half by the touchline and once the full-time whistle went they headed down the tunnel.

You get the feeling we haven't heard the last of that but that's for Walsall to worry about another day - they are off to Wembley and are one game from promotion.

Walsall are going to Wembley!

Charlie Lakin's 81st minute goal made the tie safe but in truth Chesterfield didn't do enough to threaten their 2-0 lead from the first leg.

Jenson Metcallfe did have a goal disallowed but that was a rare sight of goal for the visitors until Armando Dobra tapped in an injury-time equaliser.

Levi Amantchi missed a sitter for the home side but it didn't matter and he made amends by collecting a late, late winner on the night.

There are flares going off, without trying to sound like too much of a note of disappointment, it is a bit of a problem.

We've still got fans on the pitch and smoke bombs have been thrown as well.

We've seen some drama in the play-offs down the years but I doubt Chesterfield have three goals in them and surely even Walsall for all their recent woes can't blow this.

The Walsall players have been through a lot recently, their collapse in the league and the last minute goal from Bradford on the final day.

But without all of those we wouldn't have had a night and an atmosphere like tonight.

It is surely too late for Chesterfield.
