Lincoln began their League One season with a 2-0 victory over Reading at the LNER Stadium.
The hosts looked dangerous early on, with Conor McGrandles seeing a 16th-minute effort deflected wide.
They were ahead in the 21st minute when Rob Street latched on to George Wickens' long clearance and squeezed the ball past Joel Pereira from a tight angle with the help of a deflection.
Street nearly repeated the feat just after the half-hour mark, only to be denied by a last-ditch tackle from Michael Stickland.
At the other end, Mamadi Caba Camara thought he had levelled for the visitors before the break, only to see his effort ruled out for offside.
Jack Moylan was denied by a stunning close-range save from Pereira shortly after the restart when it looked certain his header was bound for the net.
The home side did not have it all their own way and Reading were almost level in the 51st minute when Lewis Wing's 20-yard effort was pushed onto the post by Wickens.
But the Imps all but secured the points in the 67th minute when Reeco Hackett finished calmly from McGrandles' fine through ball.
