I’m so proud of Big-Dan-Expletive-Burn. His name wasn’t near any article forecasting England squads but honestly, if you want a defender who is solid at the back, who will give his all on the pitch - he’s your man. He won’t disappoint, coming from someone who watches him regularly, he’s at least a solid 7 week in week out.

A few differing opinions coming in over Dan Burn's inclusion in Thomas Tuchel's first squad.

    Personally, I quite like it.

How about you? Hit the thumbs, people!

  7. What is Tuchel's preferred formation?published at 08:38 Greenwich Mean Time

In terms of formation, Thomas Tuchel has used both the 4-2-3-1 formation and a variation of 3-4-2-1, which he implemented at Chelsea in an impressively short amount of time for Champions League glory.

His sides can be described as pragmatic with an extremely high level of detail put onto each player. Not afraid of a direct style, his Bayern side knocked Arsenal out of last season's Champions League maximising long diagonal balls into pacey wingers for one v one situations.

The biggest clue as to whether Tuchel will play three at the back will be if six centre-back options are chosen to cover the two games, rather than four or five, including versatile players like Ben White. Another hint would be the inclusion of Crystal Palace's Tyrick Mitchell, who is playing as left wing-back under Oliver Glasner.

  8. Lewis-Skelly set to be included by Tuchelpublished at 08:34 Greenwich Mean Time

Former England boss Gareth Southgate was criticised for his failed Luke Shaw fitness gamble in the summer and left-back remains a dilemma for Thomas Tuchel.

In-form Newcastle defender Lewis Hall - who was given his Chelsea debut by Tuchel - appeared nailed on before being ruled out for the rest of the campaign with an injury.

However, Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly has had an impressive breakthrough season despite actually being a midfielder at youth level.

The 18-year-old has featured in 13 Premier League games for Arsenal this term, and played six times in the Champions League

Thomas Tuchel has resisted the temptation to select Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri despite the clamour for his selection.

Nwaneri is set to be promoted into the Under-21’s instead.

His Arsenal team-mate Myles Lewis-Skelly is expected to earn a call up.

    • Jamie Gittens-Another England youth international flourishing at Dortmund, the 20-year-old has four goals in 12 Champions League games this season
    • Liam Delap-Tipped as a long-term Kane replacement as England's central striker, the 21-year-old Ipswich star has 10 Premier League goals despite his side's relegation fears.

Controversial opinion, but I would like to see Rashford in an England shirt again. He’s not had the best form the last 18 months and moving to Villa seems to have revitalised him. I would like to see TT take a gamble on him and see if Marcus has a place in the England team going forward.

  14. 'A calm and humble guy, a nice person' - Tuchel's previous Rashford commentspublished at 08:17 Greenwich Mean Time

The Athletic have reported this morning that Marcus Rashford, on loan at Aston Villa from Manchester United since January, will be called up to Thomas Tuchel's first squad.

Back when he was head coach at Paris St. Germain, Tuchel praised Rashford ahead of his side's Champions League game against Manchester United in 2020.

"We value him very much when he plays in England and not Parc des Princes, honestly, because [him scoring against us] gets a little bit annoying," Tuchel said.

“The guy is a very young adult who takes his responsibility on and off the pitch very impressively. I have met him as an opponent three times and every time I’ve met a calm and humble guy and a nice person, which is amazing. I like this mixture a lot.

“For me personally, the sporting side is clear – he’s a big threat with his speed, with his ability to score, with his determination and his finishing. He’s very precise, taking shots inside and outside of the box. He is super rapid on counter-attacks and strong in the air with headers."

  17. What's happened since Tuchel was announced?published at 08:09 Greenwich Mean Time

On October 16 last year Thomas Tuchel was named the new England boss.

At the unveiling he said England can "free ourselves from history" and work to "make our dream come true" at the 2026 World Cup.

Lee Carsley oversaw his final camp as interim boss in November and lead England to a 3-0 win over Greece in Athens and a 5-0 win over the Republic of Ireland at Wembley. That result over Ireland meant England were promoted back to League A in the Nations League.

Tuchel officially took charge at the turn of the year and preparations are underway for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers. England were drawn in a group with Albania, Latvia, Andorra and Serbia.

Dan Burn has been consistent for the last few seasons. He isn't glamorous but he can defend, unlike many other of England's centre backs.
