For those that don't know what a 'Rondo' is, the players form a circle with two players in the middle.

Those on the outer edge of the circle must keep the ball, passing it to each other but only using one touch.

When completed at a high level it's fascinating to watch, so far so good!

  10. Southgate 'been brilliant for his country'published at 11:50 1 July

    England 2-1 Slovakia (aet)

    John Cross
Daily Mirror Chief Football Writer on BBC Radio 5 Live

The one which encapsulated it, was the "best worst display from England"

Gareth Southgate contract expires in December, this is a guy I think who's been brilliant for his country.

I do think this is a tournament too far and he looks a troubled man. Speaking to Southgate last night he didn't look the same Gareth Southgate.

  11. 'It's the best worst game of all time'published at 11:43 1 July

    England 2-1 Slovakia (aet)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

England fan Tommy, who went to the game in Gelsenkirchen, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "We were adjacent with it [Jude Bellingham's goal] and I was with my brother. God bless my brother, he has driven us all the way here and we nearly didn’t come.

"My brother had a superstition that every time he would go to the toilet England would score and he kept doing that, with the offside goal [Phil Foden's disallowed goal] it happened.

"Luckily he just got back in the stands for Bellingham's goal. I have been to a lot of football matches in my time and I don’t think I have hugged so many strangers in my whole life.

"It is the best worst game of all time."

Is this tournament turning into an England classic? Beautiful sun, last-second worldies, pubs bouncing, a nail-biting end with despair mixed in for good measure. Come on England!

  13. 'Moments like that can change the whole mood'published at 11:31 1 July

    Alan Shearer BBC column graphic

No-one wants to see us drop deep like that, but we have to accept that is the way Gareth Southgate wants us to play.

The evidence is there now that this is who we are, and this is our identity in major finals.

The biggest positive to take away from Sunday’s game is that England found a way.

Knockout football is just about getting through to the next round regardless of your performance and somehow - I still don’t know exactly how - we have done that.

Maybe, Bellingham’s goal is the spark this team have been looking for.

You always know moments like that can change the whole mood of a tournament because it has happened to England before.

As well as Paul Gascoigne’s brilliant goal against Scotland at Euro ’96, the best example is probably David Platt’s last-gasp winner against Belgium at the 1990 World Cup, which was the moment England started playing.

Watched the match with my football mad seven-year-old son. Euro 2024 is the first time he’s properly watched/supported England. We struggled together through 95 minutes. My dad and brother (lifelong diehard England fans) switched the match off. I was stood a metre from our telly with my son, controller in hand about to turn off and giving him the “this is what it’s like being an England fan” speech when Bellingham scored that worldie. Cue bedlam. Got to enjoy the amazing moments that make football the beautiful game. I think he’s had what for his dad was the “Gazza 96 [England] moment”. Thank you to Bellingham for giving us all something to cheer and for making a priceless memory for my son!

  15. 'It was almost like a complete 180'published at 11:16 1 July

    England 2-1 Slovakia (aet)

    David James
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Former England goalkeeper David James told BBC Radio 5 Live about the impact he believes supporters can have on the players and their future performances at Euro 2024:

"What I found interesting was at the end of the game all the fans were singing Sweet Caroline. It was almost like a complete 180 with regards to the fans [compared to after previous draws against Slovenia and Denmark].

"The positivity from the England players having fans celebrate that way will provide even more quality than Jude Bellingham's goal or Harry Kane's header."

It seems Ricky from London is not the only England fan to be filled with blind hope and optimism.

One of the contributors in this montage of supporters - who were asked for their views on Sunday as they filtered out of the stadium in Gelsenkirchen following the Three Lions' dramatic win over Slovakia - said he would "not be coming home until it comes home".

That means he will be staying in Germany until England win this tournament - or any major tournament, for that matter...

Everyone needs to chill. We’re going to the final where we’ll beat Germany on penalties in their own country and Gareth’s Euro ‘96 redemption will be complete. It is his destiny.

Louis Tomlinson brings TV to watch England at Glastonbury

One Direction member Louis Tomlinson was certainly not going to miss out on the action.

He delighted Glastonbury attendees by bringing along a television to watch England play against Slovakia in Euro 2024.

Although Tomlinson told the BBC's culture and media editor, Katie Razzal, it was "touch and go" with the signal for a while.

The singer attended the festival as a concert goer, rather than performing himself and set the television up in the camp grounds.

    • Did you miss out on Glastonbury while watching the weekend's football? Well don't worry, you can catch up with all the highlights, including live sets, by searching ‘Glastonbury’ on BBC Sounds or BBC iPlayer.

England fan Steve from Yorkshire, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I feel like I missed out on the tension and anger.

"I was finishing a pond I have been working on, we heard a cheer a few doors down.

"Dashed inside put the TV on to see that the England players had taken a break after full time. I dashed outside to clean everything away before coming back inside, but then Harry Kane scored – so we missed both goals."
