Champions League highlights: Lille 6-1 Feyenoord
Lille have reached the last 16 of the Champions League after crushing Feyenoord with a spectacular win.
The Dutch side scored a remarkable three own goals in France, while Osame Sahraoui, Jonathan David and Remy Cabella also on the scoresheet for the Ligue 1 side.
It means Lille finish seventh in the league phase and automatically reach the round of 16, while Feyenoord must progress through the play-offs.
These sides started the night level pegging on 13 points and the same goal difference, 11th versus 12th in the table.
But by the end Lille had finished with a crushing win, unbeaten at home in the league stage and through to the knockouts, while Manchester City, Real Madrid and several other more heralded sides must take the longer route.
Lille's great night started in the fourth minute, when Sahraoui slid a low finish past Justin Bijlow from a tight angle.
Feyenoord equalised when Santiago Gimenez turned home from close range for his fifth goal of the competition, the most by a player for the Dutch club in a Champions League season since Jon Dahl Tomasson in 1999-2000.
But the first own goal of the night arrived when centre-back Gernot Trauner turned a cutback past his own keeper, and the second came after 57 minutes when Angel Gomes' shot deflected off David Hancko and looped home.
Lille then ensured progression with three goals in six second-half minutes when David struck, before the unfortunate Trauner scored his second own goal of the night amid a goalmouth scramble.
Former Newcastle midfielder Cabella added the sixth with a close-range header on 80 minutes to cap a brilliant group stage for Lille, who have won five of eight games including beating Real Madrid.

UEFA Champions League
All competitions
Lille and Feyenoord will meet for the first time in a competitive fixture; the French side are winless in six previous European games against Dutch opposition, losing the last five in a row (D1).
Feyenoord won their first ever away game against French opposition in the 1962-63 European Cup (1-0 v Reims), but have since gone winless in five games against such sides in European competition (D3 L2).
Lille are unbeaten in their last six home matches in the group/league phase of the UEFA Champions League (W3 D3), including a win over reigning champions Real Madrid this season (1-0). The last visiting side to beat them in the group/league phase was Ajax, in a 2-0 victory in November 2019.
Feyenoord are unbeaten away from home in the UEFA Champions League this season (W2 D1), and could go four unbeaten on the road in the competition for the first time since October 1999 (4), then under Leo Beenhakker.
Lille have won four of their seven matches in the UEFA Champions League this season (D1 L2), as many victories as in their previous three appearances in this competition combined (one in 2012-13, 0 in 2019-20 and three in 2021-22).
With 17 goals scored and 15 conceded in seven games in this season’s UEFA Champions League, Feyenoord are the first side to play more than six games in a campaign in the competition while averaging over two goals both for and against per game since Tottenham in 2019-20, who both scored and conceded 18 goals in eight matches.
Feyenoord had just 20.0% possession in their 3-0 win over Bayern Munich last time out, the lowest by a winning side in a UEFA Champions League match since Celtic v Barcelona in November 2012 (16.4%). The Dutch side also faced 30 shots in that match, with only CFR Cluj v Sporting Braga in September 2012 (38) and Rangers v Lyon in October 2007 (32) facing more on record (from 2003-04) in the competition while keeping a clean sheet.
Jonathan David has netted five goals in seven UEFA Champions League appearances for Lille this season; the most by any player for the club in a single campaign. Meanwhile, across all major European competition, only Yusuf Yazici has ever scored more in a single season for the French side (seven in 2020-21 in the UEFA Europa League).
Santiago Giménez has four goals in this season’s UEFA Champions League, the most by a player in a single edition for Feyenoord since Jon Dahl Tomasson in 1999-00 (4). The last players to score more in a European Cup/Champions League campaign for the club were Ove Kindvall (7) and Ruud Geels (6) in 1969-70.
Only Kai Havertz (295) has applied high pressure (pressure within 0-2 metres of an opponent) in the opposition’s half more times in this season’s UEFA Champions League than Lille’s Jonathan David (252).
