Highlights: Celtic 2-0 Dundee

Celtic continued their unbeaten start to the Scottish Premiership season - and stay level with Aberdeen at the summit - after an ultimately comfortable victory over Dundee.

It took Brendan Rodgers' side 60 minutes, and three changes, to get going at Parkhead as Alistair Johnston made it two goals from two games by tapping home Yang Hyun-Jun's cross.

Arne Engels made it two seven minutes later when he calmly converted from the spot after Kyogo Furuhashi won a penalty.

And the league leaders saw it out from there against a Dundee side who have now just won twice in 10 and slip to 10th place.

Dundee started on the front foot, winning a free-kick just outside the Celtic box, and although the first attempt was headed clear by Auston Trusty, Kasper Schmeichel had work to do to keep out the rebound.

From that point on, Celtic enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in the first half and watched as chance after chance came and went to leave it goalless at the break.

Brendan Rodgers rung the changes early in the second half, with Luis Palma, Anthony Ralston and Paolo Bernardo making way for Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Johnston.

Just a few minutes later, it was right-back Johnston who made the breakthrough for the reigning champions as he tapped in from Yang's pass.

Engels made it two from the spot after Antonio Portales was adjudged to have clipped Kyogo in the box as he was racing through on goal.

The Belgian midfielder sent his spot kick straight down the middle as Jon McCracken dived to his right.

The chances kept coming for Celtic and, although they couldn’t find the back of the net again, the two-goal cushion was enough to secure all three points.

Celtic changes make the difference

Rodgers acknowledged prior to this that changes would be necessary as his side deal with a hefty fixture schedule.

He made six changes to the side that beat Motherwell 3-0 on Sunday, including swapping right-back Johnston for Ralston and opting for Bernardo over Hatate in the middle of the park.

Despite 13 shots and an xG of 2.24 in the first half, Celtic just couldn’t break the deadlock. At the start of the second period, they once again peppered the Dundee box with chances that didn’t come to anything.

That’s when Rodgers brought on the big guns – Johnston, Hatate and Maeda, who made an immediate impact.

A real positive for him will be knowing he has so many gamechangers within his squad but there will be a worry that the squad players seemed unable to deliver.

Dundee disappointment continues

After the weekend's disappointment of dropping three points from a winning position, there will be similar feelings in the Dundee dressing room after that first half at Parkhead.

Dundee held off Celtic for 60 minutes, but that doesn't prevent Tony Docherty's side head back to Dens Park with nothing.

Two wins in 10 games, 10th place in the table and things don’t get much easier - a visit from Kilmarnock on Sunday before a trip to the fortress of Pittodrie the following weekend.

Brendan Rodgers give his reaction to Celtic's win over Dundee

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers: "Alistair Johnston has got the feeling now of scoring goals so he's hungry.

"But he's top class, he's a real leader, very strong defensively and a tough boy mentally. He's done fantastic for us but tonight was also a good chance to get Tony [Ralston] some minutes."

Dundee manager Tony Docherty: "I was really pleased with the level of performance the players put in. Playing against a top, top opponent like Celtic there's so many things to get right.

"I thought the performance of the players merited a clean sheet."
