  1. 'Very special' - Eze opens Arsenal accountpublished at 09:00 BST

It was a moment that Eberechi Eze has longed for.

His first goal for his boyhood club Arsenal since his £60m arrival from Crystal Palace over the summer came in the League Cup win against Port Vale.

The England international was found by Gabriel Martinelli in the middle of the box and calmly slotted the ball past the Port Vale goalkeeper.

“I’ve been waiting to score for this club for a long time and the first is very special,” Eze said.

Eze was given a rare opportunity to start in his favoured 'number 10' position - with Mikel Arteta making nine changes to the side that picked up a point against Manchester City at the weekend.

However, despite a fast start, Arsenal lacked the ability to break through a resolute Vale side until finding their second late on.

People say this cup doesn't matter but there are a lot of big clubs who will really want to win this trophy - Arsenal need a cup, Spurs want to ride the wave and Palace and Brighton might even do it! Love this competition, hoping another new name on it.

  5. Could a non-top flight club win the EFL Cup?published at 08:41 BST

On paper, there is a decent chance for a non-top flight club to make a run in the Carabao Cup this year - and while it wouldn't be unheard of, it has been a while since a team from outside of the Premier League made the final.

Bradford are the last Football League side to make it to Wembley in the competition - they were beaten 5-0 by Swansea in the 2013 final, Cardiff lost on penalties to Liverpool the year before.

Liverpool also saw off Birmingham in 2001 and Bolton in 1995, while Leicester beat Tranmere in 2000 and Chelsea beat Middlesbrough in 1998.

You have to go all the way back to Sheffield Wednesday in 1991 for the last time the League Cup was won by a team outside the top division.

John Sheridan's first-half goal was enough for Wednesday to shock a Manchester United team featuring Bryan Robson, Paul Ince and Mark Hughes.

Professional performance from Newcastle last night, against a team doing really well in League One. We've seen us come undone by these sort of teams before, so reassuring to see us get through with relative ease. 7 changes from the weekend really highlights the strength in depth that we have.

Last time out Newcastle had one of the hardest cup runs I've see. Hopefully this time we get a slightly easier run to the final.

  7. Good draw for non-Premier League sides?published at 08:33 BST

With four all-Premier League ties, including a mouth-watering contest between holders Newcastle and Tottenham, the chances of a side from outside the top flight making a run to the latter stages are much improved.

The all-Welsh tie between Wrexham and Cardiff means there will be at least one non-Premier League club in the quarter-finals, while Grimsby, Swansea and Wycombe all have home advantage as they look to cause an upset against the big boys.

  8. Wrexham v Cardiff - who will be favourites in all-Welsh tie?published at 08:25 BST

Wales have three clubs in the fourth round for the first time and will be guaranteed a quarter-finalist after Wrexham were drawn at home to Cardiff City.

Swansea – who won the competition in 2013 – will host Manchester City.

The all-Welsh encounter at the Racecourse next month will be the first meeting in 21 years between Wrexham who were promoted to the Championship last season and Cardiff who have lost just once in League One this season after being relegated the other way.

Former Wales international Malcolm Allen makes Wrexham only marginal favourites.

“I've got to go Wrexham, they're playing at home obviously that's going to be an advantage to them although they haven't been that great at the Racecourse this season,” said former Newcastle United striker Allen.

“Cardiff flying high, only lost to Bradford last week, went to Burnley, big scalp for them beating a Premiership team in this cup, so they'll want to keep that cup run and I think Brian Barry-Murphy has done really well there.

“He's had to work with the youngsters, he’s got a couple of older ones coming back into the fold now as well so Cardiff will be going up there full of confidence because of who they've just beaten in the cup and also how they're doing in the league.”

There will be an all-Welsh tie in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with Wrexham hosting Cardiff City.

Swansea City have secured a home tie against Premier League giants Manchester City, with the fixtures taking place across the week beginning 27 October.

This is the first time in the competition's history that three Welsh clubs have made it to the fourth round.

In the 65 previous editions of the League Cup, Wales has only once had more than one side in the last 16, when Swansea City and Wrexham made it that far in 1976-77.

Wrexham and Cardiff will play each other for the first time in 21 years having not met since an FAW Cup contest in 2004.

Palace getting literally the worst draw they could. When you combine distance and quality of opposition. Hopefully it turns out to not be great for Liverpool either.

As a Brighton fan I’m a bit disappointed we got such a tough draw at this stage, especially as a cup is the only realistic chance a club like ours has of winning something. However we did beat Arsenal away in the League Cup last time we had this fixture…

Phil Foden scored one and provided the assist for the second to help Manchester City battle past League One Huddersfield Town and reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Pep Guardiola's side are on a run of six games in the space of 18 days in three different competitions and required the contributions of England international Foden to advance in the competition.

Foden broke the deadlock on 18 minutes by drilling an unerring finish low into the corner following a quick give-and-go with teenage debutant Divine Mukasa.

The 25-year-old was full of confidence, spraying delightful passes around the pitch, and could have doubled his tally but curled a 25-yard free-kick over the crossbar.

The hosts had openings in the first half when the ball dropped nicely for Zepiqueno Redmond on the edge of the area, but the on-loan Aston Villa forward blazed his effort over, while captain Ben Wiles dragged wide from a promising position.

But City continued to patiently work openings in the second half and got their reward 16 minutes from time when Foden squeezed out a pass to Savinho, who smashed home a finish via the underside of the crossbar.

Tottenham continued their strong start to life under Thomas Frank and sealed a spot in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with victory against Doncaster.

Frank showed the depth of his squad, making seven changes to the side that drew at Brighton on Saturday, and they did not skip a beat.

Tottenham did not have to wait long to get in front with Bayern Munich loanee Joao Palhinha finishing with an overhead kick after League One Doncaster failed to fully clear a corner.

Defender Jay McGrath was caught flat-footed when trying to deal with Wilson Odobert's cross three minutes later and subsequently hooked into his own net to double Tottenham's lead.

Doncaster had already taken a scalp to reach this stage of the competition - beating Championship side Middlesbrough in round one - but they were no match for Premier League opposition.

They came out with intent after half-time and almost pulled one back when Glenn Middleton's free-kick kissed the side-netting.

Lucas Bergvall had a goal ruled out for offside in additional time but Brennan Johnson took his opportunity when clean through on goal to grab a third with the last kick of the game.

What a great draw. Premier League teams playing each other, or away to the lesser opposition. Not often we see that.

Joelinton and William Osula both scored twice as holders Newcastle United started their defence of the Carabao Cup with a comfortable win against Bradford City.

Eddie Howe's side ended a 70-year wait for major domestic silverware by lifting the trophy at Wembley last season with victory over Liverpool.

And they took control of this third-round tie against the League One leaders with two goals in as many first-half minutes at St James' Park.

Joelinton pounced on a loose ball inside the area to score the first in the 17th minute - ending a nine-month goal drought - after Anthony Gordon saw an initial effort blocked.

Striker Osula doubled Newcastle's lead just two minutes later after he latched on to Bruno Guimaraes' wonderful through-ball and coolly finished past Bradford goalkeeper Sam Walker.

The hosts had more opportunities to extend their lead in the second half before Joelinton made it 3-0 in the 75th minute with a composed finish from inside the box.

Substitute Andy Cook pulled one back for Bradford late on after the boyhood Newcastle fan unleashed a venomous effort in off the underside of the bar from the edge of the area.

But Osula restored the hosts' three-goal advantage with a close-range finish as Howe's side booked a home meeting with Tottenham Hotspur in the last 16.

Eberechi Eze scored his first goal for Arsenal as they beat League One side Port Vale to reach the Carabao Cup fourth round.

The forward, who joined the Gunners in a deal worth £60m last month, opened the scoring in the eighth minute when he slotted in from Gabriel Martinelli's pass.

It was his first goal in his sixth appearance for the club and he could have had a second just before the break when he was slipped through by Mikel Merino, but he was denied by Port Vale goalkeeper Joe Gauci.

The hosts, who were promoted to League One at the end of last season, battled well against their Premier League opponents and caused them issues at times from set-pieces.

While the game remained 1-0, they always had a chance of getting a leveller, and that almost came with 15 minutes to go when substitute Devante Cole curled a shot from distance just over.

But Leandro Trossard drove in late on to make certain of Arsenal's place in the next round - where they will host his former club Brighton.
