Luke Hannant’s second-half penalty earned Gateshead a win at Sutton in the National League.
With the scores level at the interval, the visitors were awarded a spot-kick after 53 minutes following a handball in the Sutton area.
Hannant stepped up to covert from 12 yards before Gateshead saw out the victory to move up to fourth in the table, three points behind leaders Forest Green.
Sutton’s defeat – their third in a row – left them in 14th.
