    What a day!

Birmingham saw themselves give Wycombe daylight after conceding a last minute equaliser to an ecstatic Northampton Town.

We witnessed big results at London Road and Edgeley Park - with Peterborough cruising to 6-1 victory over Cambridge while Stockport came out of their match against Bolton on the right end of a 5-0 as opposed to their midweek humbling.

Walsall saw their kit man sent off...

Oh - and Burton finally won a game! A victory that took them off the bottom at that.

Meanwhile, none of the top five won in a incredibly tight League Two promotion race.

The third and fourth tiers are something else. Lucky us that we have so much more left to enjoy this season, ey?

    See you next weekend!

    • Grimsby have won five consecutive away games in the EFL for the first time since September 2005.
    • Fleetwood ended a run of five matches without a win in the league. Their victory over Bradford was only their second home league win of the season and first since their opening day win against Grimsby.
    • Harry Smith scored for Swindon against MK Dons after 15 seconds. It’s the earliest goal in League Two this season and the joint-earliest in the top four tiers of English football alongside Paul Mullin's for Wrexham v Rotherham in October.
    • Alassana Jatta has scored seven goals in his last ten league games for Notts County; that’s two more than he managed in his first 11 such matches for the club.
    • Carl Jenkinson’s red card for Bromley was his first sending off in a league match in the top four tiers of English football since being sent-off for West Ham against Bournemouth in August 2015. No side has had more red cards in the top four tiers of English football in 2024-25 than Bromley’s three.

There was a period of time during the early kick-offs that Morecambe had risen above Carlisle to clear themselves off the bottom place - but the latter's surprise win at Salford maintained the status quo.

The good news for both teams is that having won their games they've reduced their deficit slightly and have closed the gap between them and the teams just in front.

Ian Holloway's first game in charge of Swindon Town ended in a defeat that puts them dangerously at risk of being in last place themselves should the results of the day see a repeat next time out.

Newport drop into the bottom 10 while Tranmere Rovers and Accrington Stanley win to get themselves closer to the safety and comfort of the midtable.

It wasn't a good day for the teams in the top five.

Port Vale fell to their first league defeat since August to Gillingham, who stabilise after their run of poor results and begin a climb back up the table they topped not too long ago.

While Walsall, Notts County, Doncaster Rovers and Crewe Alexandra all came out with a point.

But since none of them capitalised, none of them moved anywhere either.

MK Dons and Grimsby, however, have got themselves closer to the fight for promotion while Chesterfield and Bradford City find themselves fall a little off the pace.

Wrexham fans celebrate at full-time against MansfieldImage source, Rex Features
    • After their 1-0 win against Mansfield, Wrexham have now attained 28 points from their first 14 games of the season, their highest ever tally after 14 games into a new EFL campaign, surpassing the 26 they attained in the fourth tier in 1986-87.
    • Peterborough have now scored 31 goals and conceded 27 in League One, with their games seeing a total of 58 goals scored – they are the only team to have seen 50+ goals scored in their games across the top four tiers of English football this season.
    • Exeter's 1-0 win against Charlton was their first league victory against the Addicks in over a decade, since a 3-1 win at The Valley in February 2011, breaking a six-game winless streak against them (D1 L5).
    • Burton ended a 14-game run without a win to record their first league victory of the season. They’re the last team in the EFL to register a win in 2024-25. Tomas Kalinauskas’ opener was his first EFL goal.
    • Leyton Orient’s Sonny Perkins scored the opening goal in his side’s 3-0 win against Blackpool, his first ever league goal involvement in what was his 13th appearance.
    • Stockport's Louie Barry scored his 10th goal of the League One season, one of the first two players to reach double figures in the division this term today, alongside Peterborough’s Kwame Poku.

Burton came out on top in the lunchtime basement battle against Shrewsbury to move off the bottom and are within striking distance of Cambridge after their 6-1 derby humbling by Peterborough.

Crawley had to settle for a point against Huddersfield but Leyton Orient gave themselves a nice cushion with a 3-0 romp against Blackpool.

Northampton's last-ditch leveller at St Andrew's means Wycombe have a two-point lead at the top after their first ever win at Wigan.

Wrexham are only two points behind Blues after seeing off Mansfield at lunchtime while Stockport were the big climbers after smashing Bolton 5-0 to return to the top six.

Alassana Jatta opened the scoring for Notts County in their 1-1 draw at Doncaster Rovers

Lyle Taylor scored a 92nd minute equaliser for Colchester United to earn the U's a point at Barrow.

Grimsby held on to beat AFC Wimbledon 1-0 and 10-man Bromley earned an impressive point at Cheltenham thanks to a 1-1 draw.

Accrington Stanley picked up arguably the result of the day in League Two with a terrific 3-0 away win at Chesterfield while MK Dons saw off Swindon 3-1.

Tranmere Rovers beat Newport County 2-1 and Fleetwood Town beat inconsistent Bradford City 1-0 at home.

And finally, Notts County and Doncaster Rovers played out a 1-1 draw at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Stockport stormed the second-half to beat Bolton 5-0 in a complete reverse of the 5-0 defeat they suffered at the hands of Wycombe in the week. The wonders of League One truly do shine.

Leyton Orient dominated Blackpool during their 3-0 victory.

There's three draws to speak of; two 1-1's between Stevenage and Reading as well as Bristol Rovers and Lincoln City, plus a 2-2 for Crawley and Huddersfield.

Know who didn't draw? Charlton, who have been doing lots of that recently though maybe didn't want to see their one point results become a zero after losing 1-0 to Exeter City.

  11. 'A game of fine margins'published at 17:05 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November

    FT: Gillingham 1-0 Port Vale

    Mike Baggaley
Port Vale journalist on BBC Radio Stoke

It was a game of fine margins.

They were on the wrong side of a few decisions.

No criticisms of Vale's work rate but they were not good enough in the first-half.

Gillingham played very well throughout the match.

What a mad final few minutes.

Has a kitman ever been sent off before?!

    Richard Wilford

The error from Anderson has cost them, they've had so many chances but couldn't put the game to bed.

A crisp drive from Mitch Pinnock saw Northampton equalise.

They've paid the price of not putting their chances away, it was a mistake.

They have been dicing with issues like this for a couple of weeks now.

Port Vale lose for the first time in 11 league matches!

The Gills hold on to an excellent three points thanks to Jayden Clarke's 79th minute header.

Vale remain three points clear of second place Walsall following their 1-1 draw at home to Crewe this afternoon although the Saddlers have a game in hand on the Valiants.

Vale striker Jayden Stockley missed the best opportunity for the visitors who will have to get over bumps in the road if they are to earn promotion this season.

  15. FULL-TIMEpublished at 17:01 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November

    Birmingham 1-1 Northampton

With practically the last kick of the game the visitors have snatched a point.

Blues were seconds away from making it six straight home wins for the first time since October 2000 but Mitch Pinnock's last gasp blast has denied them.

For all their dominance of the ball, Blues hadn't really ever taken the game away from the Cobblers who saw Jon Guthrie denied by Ryan Allsop's fine save in the first half and went close on a couple of other occasions too.

Blues posted 79% possession, 10 corners, 25 shots, three of them on target, and one point.

    Michael Beardmore
BBC Sport at Poundland Bescot Stadium

In what surely must be a first, Walsall's kitman has been sent off!

I think his name is Dave Joyce and he's been red-carded for an almighty sideline scuffle that saw a couple of other yellow cards brandished.

  18. Derby delight for Poshpublished at 16:59 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November

    FT: Peterborough 6-1 Cambridge United

    Quite extraordinary...

363 days ago Peterborough beat Cambridge United 5-0 at London Road, their biggest ever derby win, with Kwame Poku scoring twice.

Today Kwame Poku scored his first senior hat-trick, Ricky-Jade Jones, Malik Mothersille and Liam De Havilland got others and Sullay Kaikai's late goal was a mere consolation as Posh ran out 6-1 winners.

Lee Burge's long goal kick for the visors drops to Mitch Pinnock near the edge of the Blues box and he smashes in a half-volley which finds the bottom corner.

Pinnock doesn't score normal goals. There are limbs in the away end.

  20. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:57 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November

    Wigan 0-1 Wycombe

Wigan had one more shot on target than the visitors but Wycombe were the only side to make one count as they take their first win away to the Latics and take their place at the top of the table.

Wigan front man Thelo Aasgaard had two big chances to preserve their record and take home at least a point but Chairboys keeper Franco Ravizzoli proved too shrewd to be beaten out to end his day with a well-earned clean sheet.
