    Harrogate Town 0-0 Morecambe

The ball drops kindly for Harrogate's Stephen Duke-Mckenna but the winger fires high, wide and not particularly handsome over the Morecambe goal.

What a way to break the deadlock...

For all the world it looked like Ryan Barnett would cross the ball from the right of the area in towards Paul Mullin, but instead he takes a step to the right and whips in a low shot across Christy Pym's goal which bounces under the keeper's dive to the right and into the net.

The Stags keeper hasn't had a touch but is now picking the ball out of the back of his net.

After an early scare, Wrexham are ahead.

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 12:37 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November

    Wrexham 0-0 Mansfield

Mansfield really should be ahead. Evergreen Lee Gregory catches the Wrexham defence napping and bursts down the left clean through on Arthur Okonkwo's goal, only to seemingly stumble under pressure as he tried to get his shot off and poke the ball straight at the keeper's legs.

    Burton 0-0 Shrewsbury

Feisty already between the two at the bottom of League One.

Burton's Tomas Kalinauskas pushes down a white shirt to give away a free kick in the Shrewsbury half.

He's not pleased the decision doesn't go his way but it's the right one.

  5. Postpublished at 12:34 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November

    Wrexham 0-0 Mansfield

Wrexham's George Dobson plays the ball straight to Mansfield forward Will Evans in his own half but Evans' fierce drive from 25 yards is straight at Arthur Okonkwo who pats down and gathers at the second attempt.

    Salford 0-0 Carlisle

We're underway at the Peninsula Stadium and its a decent start from the hosts as Josh Austerfield takes the first shot in anger but its blocked by the Carlisle defence.

  7. Postpublished at 12:32 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November

    Wrexham 0-0 Mansfield

Is this a mini crisis for Wrexham? Three games without a win, and out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle?

They'll surely be very keen to make a statement this afternoon against a side who came up with them from League Two, without half the fanfare, it must be said...

The early kick-off includes Wrexham and Mansfield's battle towards the top but the rest are all about who can stay off the bottom.

League One's Burton Albion and Shrewsbury Town and League Two's Carlisle United and Morecambe - the fight to avoid being the worst in the league begins now.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has made three changes to the side which lost 1-0 at Harrogate in the FA Cup first round last weekend.

Dan Scarr, Elliot Lee and skipper James McClean return with Ollie Rathbone, Seb Revan and Eoghan O’Connell missing out.

Nigel Clough has made four changes from the Stags side which cruised to victory over Curzon Ashton on Sunday.

Baily Cargill, Keanu Baccus, Aaron Lewis and Lee Gregory return with Alfie Kilgour, Stephen Quinn and Lucas Akins dropping to the bench and George Maris missing out.

Having recovered from his calf injury and made an appearance from the bench last time out, Billy Bodin is back into the starting line-up as one of Burton Albion's two changes from their goalless draw to Crawley on Tuesday.

Jack Cooper Love and Ben Whitfield both drop to play their role as substitutes while Mason Bennett in rotated in to complete the attack.

Meanwhile, it's been two weeks since Shrewsbury Town last played a league game and they've made four changes in that time.

Mal Benning comes into the backline to be accompanied by George Nurse, who drops back from midfield where Carl Winchester and Leo Castledine will take up space.

John Marquis will partner Tom Bloxham up top.

George Lloyd, Funso Ojo, Taylor Perry are all available from the bench while Aristote Nsiala doesn't make the matchday squad.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Harrogate boss Simon Weaver has opted for the same XI which dumped League One Wrexham out of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Josh March will partner last weekend's goalscorer Jack Muldoon in attack.

Morecambe make two changes from last weekend on the other hand.

Full-back David Tutonda and Gwion Edwards return to the side and replace Jordan Slew and Harvey Macadam with Marcus Dackers leading the line for The Shrimps once more.

Salford boss Karl Robinson has made five changes to the side which impressively saw off Shrewsbury Town in the second round of the FA Cup.

Goalkeeper Jamie Jones, Stephan Negru, Tyrese Fornah, Jon Taylor and Everton loanee Francis Okoronkwo all return.

Carlisle make just two changes to the side that lost 2-0 to Wigan Athletic after extra time last time out.

Callum Guy and Luke Armstrong come in for the suspended Ethan Robson and Taylor Charters who drops to the bench.

Fifth visit third as Mansfield head west to take on Wrexham this lunchtime.

Nigel Clough’s side could actually overhaul their high-flying hosts with a win, and would have a game in hand.

Phil Parkinson’s side have won only one of their past seven league games against Mansfield, though that did come in their last meeting, winning 2-0 in March.

The Red Dragons have won nine of their past 10 at the Stok Cae Ras, though the lone draw did come last time out against Huddersfield.

Despite having won four of their past five away games, and the last three on the spin, Mansfield have taken just two points from their past five visits to Wrexham and haven’t won there since February 1986.

Parkinson says he wants the ground rocking for the visit of the Stags.

Cambridge have hauled themselves out of the bottom two in recent weeks and can now look on with interest as Burton and Shrewsbury go hammer and tongs in the lunchtime basement battle.

The Us will remain in the drop zone today, however, unless they can come up with a victory in the big derby game at Peterborough.

Shrewsbury will be without a permanent head coach for their trip to bottom side Burton Albion in today's early afternoon kick-off after sacking Paul Hurst on Sunday following their FA Cup loss to Salford City.

Though, Salop aren't hanging around for long to find a replacement. In the mix is their former striker and Stockport County assistant manager Andy Mangan, who was due to take a high-profile position at Real Madrid before denial of his work visa scuppered his plans.

What do you reckon Shrewsbury fans, is Mangan the right call?

It's time for our obligatory question when it comes to a Burton Albion matchday as of late - will they finally find a win?

The Brewers have now failed to pick up all three points in 14 successive league games to establish themselves as the only winless side across the entire EFL this season.

It's left them dead last on the League One table with just five points from 13 games and they will need to find a winning groove if they want to raise themselves out of the drop zone.

They won't have many better opportunities to do so than this afternoon as they host the side directly above them, Shrewsbury Town, who are also without a permanent manager at present.

The Shrews are currently on eight points with the same goal difference as Burton, which means that a win here would see the Brewers off the bottom to begin their ascent up the table.

Plus, while the hosts have lost four of their past five meetings with Shrewsbury, they won their last meeting with the only goal of the match in December 2023 and interim boss Tom Hounsell believes a win will come round "soon".

Salford City return to league action after knocking League One Shrewsbury Town out of the FA Cup at the Peninsula Stadium.

The Ammies' form has improved recently under Karl Robinson and they are now now five without defeat in all competitions.

By contrast, Carlisle have suffered a disastrous start to 2024-2025- currently sitting in the relegation zone after dropping down to the fourth tier last season.

Head coach Mike Williamson will be hoping the signing of former Sheffield Wednesday forward Kadeem Harris, who arrived on a short-term contract this morning, will give them the boost in front of goal which has so far escaped them this term.

Harrogate Town go into this afternoon's fixture off the back of a memorable 1-0 FA Cup victory over League One high-flyers Wrexham.

Simon Weaver's side will be hoping to replicate a similar type of performance this afternoon in the league, where they currently sit 17th ahead of today's round of fixtures.

The Sulphurites take on Morecambe who are rooted to the foot of League Two after just one league win all season.

The Shrimps are, however, also coming off the back of a win in the FA Cup with former Sheffield United and Plymouth winger Jordan Slew starring in a 2-0 win over non-league Worthing last Saturday.
