FC Porto have won five of their last six UEFA Champions League matches against Belgian sides, although the one exception was in their last home game, losing 4-0 to Club Brugge on MD2 last season.
Royal Antwerp’s only previous European away game against Portuguese opponents was in a 2-2 draw with Maritimo in September 1993 in the UEFA Cup.
FC Porto have won two of their first three UEFA Champions League group stage games for the first time since 2020-21 (also W2 L1). They have won their fourth group stage match in seven of their last eight seasons (D1), winning 3-0 against Bayer Leverkusen last season.
Royal Antwerp have only played two previous away games in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League, with both of them being defeats away to Spanish sides: 0-6 v Real Madrid in 1957 and 0-5 v Barcelona on MD1 this season.
FC Porto are winless in their last two UEFA Champions League home games (D1 L1), while failing to score in both matches. They last went three consecutive home games in the competition without scoring between April and November 2004, during the spells of José Mourinho and Víctor Fernández.
In their first season in the competition, Royal Antwerp have lost their three UEFA Champions League games this season while conceding three goals in each game (0-5 vs Barcelona, 2-3 vs Shakhtar Donetsk and 1-4 vs FC Porto). Only one team has ever lost their first four Champions League games all in this manner, with Willem II doing so in the 1999-00 season.
FC Porto have used more different players than any other team in the UEFA Champions League this season (22), with defender David Carmo being their only outfield player to have played every minute in the competition so far this term (270).
Mehdi Taremi has been involved in 10 goals in his last seven UEFA Champions League group stage appearances for FC Porto (6 goals, 4 assists), assisting two goals in their 4-1 win over Royal Antwerp on MD3.
Royal Antwerp manager Mark Van Bommel is winless in all 12 UEFA Champions League games he’s managed across spells with PSV, VfL Wolfsburg and current side Antwerp (D4 L8). It’s the joint most matches managed without winning in the competition, alongside Giorgos Donis and Stanimir Stoilov. No manager has ever failed to win any of their first 13 games in the competition.
After netting just once in his first 18 UEFA Champions League appearances, Evanilson scored a hat-trick for FC Porto on MD3 against Royal Antwerp, scoring with all three shots at goal. He was the first player to score with his only three shots in a Champions League match since Christopher Nkunku in September 2021 for RB Leipzig vs Manchester City.
