The only previous meetings between Real Sociedad and Internazionale came in the 1979-80 UEFA Cup – the Italians won 3-2 on aggregate (3-0 home, 0-2 away) in the first round.
Inter have won just one of their 13 UEFA Champions League away games against Spanish sides (D2 L10), beating Valencia 5-1 in the 2004-05 group stages.
This will be Real Sociedad's third appearance in the UEFA Champions League, reaching the last 16 in 2003-04, and the group stages in 2013-14.
