  2. 'We can't take it easy in any game'published at 22:42 26 June

    FT: Georgia 2-0 Portugal

    Portugal

Portugal winger Pedro Neto speaking to UEFA.com: "The lessons that we take from this game is that we cannot go easy in any game. We started in almost a difficult way because we started almost losing and then after the second goal they became more compact and difficult to score against."

On facing Slovenia: "It will be a difficult game as always. We will work to get past this loss but we are really confident for the next game."

On Georgia having more fight than Portugal: "It is difficult to start the game losing. We had a plan and after that we have to go more thinking about the plan we have. It is difficult. It was difficult after the first goal."

The score was 7-1 to Spain.

  4. 'Spain will be tough but anything can happen'published at 22:40 26 June

    FT: Georgia 2-0 Portugal

    Dato Lobjanidze
Georgian football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is going to be super tough against Spain. When we last played them the game finished very badly for Georgia, I don't want to remember the score. But I mean no one was expecting us to beat Portugal so who knows, anything can happen. This is historic Georgia going to the next round, it is already a moment of history.

  5. 'Georgia deserved to win'published at 22:38 26 June

    FT: Georgia 2-0 Portugal

    Portugal

Portugal manager Roberto Martinez: "It's a defeat. We started with low intensity, we conceded early and that's what Georgia needed. We weren't clear-headed enough with the last pass and in front of goal, and their goalkeeper had an amazing performance. We tried to score but couldn't, and that made Georgia believe all the more. They deserved to win."

  6. 'Germany will beat Denmark'published at 22:37 26 June

    FT: Georgia 2-0 Portugal

    Roy Keane
Former Republic of Ireland captain on ITV

I still think Germany will be hard to beat. They have that momentum behind them and they are a goal threat. Denmark are a good team but Germany will beat them, I think.

  7. 'Kvaratskhelia the best version of himself tonight'published at 22:35 26 June

    FT: Georgia 2-0 Portugal

    Dato Lobjanidze
Georgian football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was flying in this game, he was beautiful, he was wonderful. He played well in the first two games as well but against Portugal he was the best version of himself tonight against Portugal.

  8. 'Georgia produced the best performance of their lives'published at 22:34 26 June

    FT: Georgia 2-0 Portugal

    Jose Fonte
Portugal defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

No excuses for Portugal, all the credit to Georgia, they were fantastic. This was the game of their lives, they produced the best performance of their lives, they fought so hard together.

Of course disappointed for Portugal. For the boys that have not been playing a lot this was a lost opportunity because it was a defeat. But we have to move on. We are in the knockout stage now and have a game that we can win that we look forward to.

  10. 'The tougher the games on the way to the final, the more prepared you are for it'published at 22:30 26 June

    FT: Georgia 2-0 Portugal

    Ange Postecoglou
    Tottenham manager on ITV

I always feel that the more hard games you play going into a final, the better prepared you are.

I think that is what prepares for you for the final. It's a tough road to the final but I think we all know the quality France have. They won't be underestimating Belgium.

  11. 'Lost for words'published at 22:28 26 June

    FT: Georgia 2-0 Portugal

    Dato Lobjanidze
Georgian football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

Even though we were all dreaming of beating Portugal it is not something that anyone believed until right at the end. The first goal, the second goal and then the last 20 minutes when we were sure that we were going to qualify. I am still unsure what to say, lost for words.

  12. 'Lucky? Don't get me started, we need a rematch!'published at 22:25 26 June

    FT: Georgia 2-0 Portugal

    Roy Keane
Former Republic of Ireland captain on ITV

    On Georgia's penalty...

Lucky? Don't get me started, we need a rematch!

I don't see that as a penalty, a little bit of contact and I am not happy with it.

It was a lovely penalty though.

  13. 'England must capitalise on this opportunity'published at 22:22 26 June

    FT: Georgia 2-0 Portugal

    Ange Postecoglou
    Tottenham manager on ITV

You saw tonight, you can have whatever plan you like if the opposition scores within 90 minutes, that plan needs to be adjusted.

England have earned the right. They finished first and now it is about capitalising on the opportunity they have.

  14. 'England can not underestimate anybody'published at 22:21 26 June

England v Slovakia (Sun, 17:00 BST)

    Roy Keane
Former Republic of Ireland captain on ITV

The form England are in, they cannot get carried away.

They can not underestimate anybody. They have done it before and it has backfired.

  15. 'Amount of cards says everything about the game'published at 22:19 26 June

    FT: Czech Republic 1-2 Turkey

    Paul Robinson
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Eighteen cards including two red cards tells you everything about the game and how disjointed it was. You have to give Czech Republic credit for how they approached the second half, they can take a lot of credit in how they played down to 10 men. They went direct and caused Turkey problems. It wasn't until late until Cenk Tosun came on and completed a bit of a smash and grab to seal Turkey's place in the next round.

  16. 'Any defender would hate to face Georgia'published at 22:18 26 June

    FT: Georgia 2-0 Portugal

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is not a fluke, absolutely not. The quality of the Georgia players and their performances tonight; Giorgi Chakvetadze on the right hand side flying forward, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia the same on the left hand side, Georges Mikautadze with scoring the penalty. Honestly any defender would hate to face them. The dribbling skills alone are a joy to watch but the combinations when they break forward are devastating.

  17. 'Georgia fully deserved to progress'published at 22:17 26 June

    FT: Georgia 2-0 Portugal

    Ange Postecoglou
    Tottenham manager on ITV

Fully deserved, Georgia were outstanding tonight - good football and energy.

Defending when they needed to and outstanding goalkeeping.

The goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is someone that everyone is tracking, he has had a good season at Valencia.

    Georgia fully deserved to progress.

  18. 'England must be grateful for this little bit of fortune'published at 22:16 26 June

    FT: Georgia 2-0 Portugal

    Gary Neville
    Former England defender on ITV

I think Slovakia will be really stern opponents for England and I was a part of the coaching team who were knocked out by Iceland.

But it is a big result to avoid the Netherlands as they will be a tougher task. But you have got to be grateful for that little bit of fortune.

  19. Postpublished at 22:14 26 June

    FT: Czech Republic 1-2 Turkey

There were 18 cards shown in tonight's game - 16 yellows and two reds, the most in a European Championship game ever.

The previous record was 10. Turkey had 11 yellow cards alone tonight.
