This is Ipswich Town and Maidstone United’s first ever meeting in a competitive match.
Ipswich have won their last two FA Cup matches against non-league opponents, beating Bracknell Town 4-0 and Buxton 3-0, last going out to a non-league side in a third round replay against Lincoln in 2016-17.
For the first time in their history, Maidstone United have reached the FA Cup fourth round. This will be their first ever game against a side from within the top two tiers of English football. The last team to win their first match in the competition against a side from the top-two leagues was Kidderminster Harriers in January 1994 against Birmingham City.
Ipswich Town have been eliminated in nine of their last 10 FA Cup fourth round ties, progressing only in 2006-07 against Swansea City in this run, the only time they’ve featured in the fifth round this century.
Maidstone are managed by George Elokobi, who played 12 matches in the FA Cup proper between 2008 and 2019. Elokobi never featured in the fifth round as a player, playing in two fourth round ties in 2009-10 and 2010-11 with Wolves, who were knocked at that stage in both seasons.
